Surprise semi-finalists in 2003 and first round knockouts in ’99 and ’96, the Kenyans are grouped with Canada, England and New Zealand. Hopes of emulating their near-unbelievable success of ’03 and their memorable win over the Windies in ’96 is as about as good as it gets for Kenya who have enjoyed mixed success over fellow minnow countries of late. However, there must be a punter or two out there who would fancy the Africans' chances against broken England. Have a few stalwarts in their side including their seasoned captain Steve Tikolo and are sure to beat Canada at least.
One of the best non-Test playing nation batsman in the world today, Tikolo has been around for what seems to an absolute age. An all-rounder in his own right with his handy mid-innings medium-pacers and hard-hitting middle-order batting. Has picked up a wealth of experience playing first-class cricket in South Africa, Bangladesh and of late, England.
Nehemiah Odhiambo has done wonders as opening bowler for Kenya since making his international debut against Zimbabwe in early 2006. Has the knack of breaking vital partnerships and removing star batsmen. His strike-rate is more than decent but needs to work on his economy rate a bit.
Ravi Shah, a skilful middle-order batsman brimming with grace and wristy bat-work. Sidelined by injury for a good stint but now back and ready to produce the goods for his country. An occasional line-and-length bowler too.
Will beat Canada but that’s it.
