Sardinian-born Gianfranco Zola left Serie C side Sassari Torres in 1989 for the pizza capital of Italy, Naples. The 22-year-old served as understudy to none other than Diego Maradona in a Napoli side that went on to win the Italian Scudetto for only the second time in the club's history.
