After playing second fiddle to Fernando Alonso for two years, Giancarlo Fisichella finally has a shot at the world title himself as Renault's team leader - though it's hard to see that the 2007 car is up to it.
Fisi's career has been a story of tremendous promise and false dawns, punctuated by great race wins such as his magnificent first triumph in the treacherous conditions at Interlagos in 2003.
After years of shining at midfield runners like Jordan and Sauber, Fisi's return to Renault in 2005 looked lik being his break.
However, 2006 was a largely disappointing season for the Italian, who even though he finished 4th and won in Malaysia, felt he could have done better. Whether he can lead a front-running team remains to be seen.
