Red Bull boss Christian Horner
Bullish for 2007
If there is one team in Formula 1 widely expected to make a giant leap forward in 2007, it's Red Bull. Backed by Ferrari engines, a vast budget and two highly experienced and competent drivers in David Coulthard and Mark Webber, they could well ruffle more than a few corporate feathers. VM spoke exclusively to team manager Christian Horner.
VM:How optimistic are you for the upcoming season?
Christian:We're looking forward to the year ahead. We have two professional drivers in David and Mark - they have both been training extremely hard, and it's a very strong team for us. Our plan is to move on from where we are. We have a good technical line-up, a solid driver line-up and engine.
VM:Do you think Red Bull can get their first victory in 2007?
Christian:We want to get among the big boys as often as possible, though I don't think a win is going to be feasible in 2007.
VM:How do you think the other British drivers will fare this season?
Christian:For Jenson Button, it depends on what Honda have done with their car over the winter, and how they cope without Geoff Willis (their technical director). Lewis Hamilton will do a good job, and it will be interesting to see how he emerges. Hopefully we will have the top British driver this year.
VM:Which young drivers should we look out for this year?
Christian:There are a few coming through. Obviously there is Lewis. Heikki Kovalainen is also going to be an exciting addition to the Renault team - they are the two obvious ones.
VM:Finally, who is your tip for the World Championship?
Christian:(thinks for ages...) Kimi or Fernando. Only time will tell if they have chosen wisely to change teams.
