Did Renault really win the title last year? You could be forgiven for thinking it had much to do with the ability of world champion Fernando Alonso, as the absence of the Spaniard for 2007 has coincided with a marked dip in the team's competitiveness.
Giancarlo Fisichella still has yet to convince as a team leader, and Heikki Kovalainen has so far flattered to deceive having spent so long as the team's test driver.
It is of course early days, and Fisichella has at least been bringing the car home while his team-mate is bound to improve his raceday performances - he certainly has the talent.
But it's hard to see Renault winning a grand prix this year - the best they can probably hope for is to challenge BMW for third spot.
