Film fans may recognise Katz's Deli as the place where an excitable Meg Ryan ate lunch in When Harry Met Sally. Regardless of its on-screen heritage, this is a true Big Apple institution on food quality alone. Meat sandwiches are the thing to order but think twice about adding a big side, since portions here include such a mound of sliced meat that it would probably be simpler to just serve up an entire unsliced salami with some bread. The place is also renowned for shipping its fine sausages to soldiers serving overseas - hence the house slogan: "Send a salami to your boy in the army!"
