Corner Bistro
Type of food: Hamburgers. And little else.
Location: Greenwich Village - 331 West 4th St.
Star dish: The Bistro Burger - topped with bacon, cheese, onions, tomato and served with a mountain of fries. And beer.
Many say that this unassuming tavern-style venue in super-cool Greenwich Village is the purveyor of New York's best burgers. Part of the appeal is the Bistro's down-to-earth mentality. The menu is simple (burgers, fries, grilled chicken sandwiches), prices are very modest (even a beer won't set you back much) and the food is uncomplicated: burgers here are solid, patty-style affairs and fries are home-cooked and supremely tasty. You might face a queue on busy evenings and lunchtimes, but the crowds of hungry punters just add to the atmosphere.
