Thailand
Airport landings don't get much more terrifying than the heroic crash-landing on New York's freezing Hudson River...or so we thought. Brace yourself, remove your false teeth and grab that sickbag, as we show you the world's most death-defying (most of the time), white-knuckle airport landings in the world.
Koh Samui, Thailand
Fear factor: There have now been two accidents involving planes coming in to land at Koh Samui's airport.
The first was in 1990 when the aircraft crashed on approach in heavy rain and high winds killing all 38 people on board.
The second accident was on the 4th August 2009, on a flight between Krabi and Koh Samui which skidded off the runway hitting the control tower, killing one of the pilots. The 68 passengers are known to be safe but not without some serious injuries. The combination of heavy rain and strong winds is believed to have played a part.
Plane spotter: The airstrip becomes a different kettle of fish when mixed with bad weather, but there have only been two bad landings, so don't let it put you off visiting Thailand's third largest island.
Scareportometer: 10 out 10 for skidding off the runway.
