Teeing off
If you need a break from Mickey, Minnie and co. or you have someone in your group who’s just ‘not that into Disney’, don’t let that stop you holidaying at Florida’s Walt Disney World. They’ve managed to keep everyone happy by offering everything from golf courses and gourmet dining to top spas and activities for toddlers.

Teeing off
Championship golf courses are one of Florida’s biggest draws, and they’re hugely impressive. Disney has four courses, three of which are on the actual PGA tour. Play at the challenging Palm and elegant Magnolia courses (both across from Disney's Polynesian Resort) or at the Tom Fazio-designed Osprey Ridge courses (at the Bonnet Creek Golf Club). At the country club-esque Lake Buena Vista course (near Downtown Disney/Saratoga Springs Resort) you can tee off next to boats and canals. And guests at Walt Disney World resorts also get complimentary transport to the course. If the rest of the family fancy a round or two, Disney’s Oak Trail, an enjoyable nine-hole, par-36 practice course, is the perfect option.

Out and about
A holiday at Walt Disney World usually involves a lot of eating, given the abundance of restaurants and huge hotel breakfasts. So, if you want to cancel out some of those calories, there are active pursuits a-plenty. Renting a bicycle is a great way to explore the expansive resort and you won’t be biking past water slides and amusement arcades either – there are waterfront paths and scenic trails. For sheer quirkiness, you can even rent a four-passenger surrey with a fringe on top.
Most resorts also offer two-hour fishing excursions or you can enjoy dockside fishing at Fort Wilderness and Disney’s Port Orleans resorts. If you’re the boating type, head to the marina and rent anything from sailboats and pontoon boats to pedaloes and kayaks. Watersports fans can get their kicks at Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre at Disney's Contemporary Resort Marina.
For an all-American experience, the Tri-Circle-D Ranch & Farm at the Fort Wilderness resort offers a country-style ranch with horses, ponies and horse-drawn wagon rides. If you’d rather leave the exercise to others, head for Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and watch athletes competing at various sports including soccer and baseball.
