One of the Doctor's longest-serving sidekicks, Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) was a regular companion to Doctors Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker before returning to assist David Tennant's Tenth Doctor in her later years. She also starred in CBBC's spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures. Sadly, Elisabeth Sladen passed away on 19th April 2011 at the age of 63 following a battle with cancer. Among her many tributes was one from Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies, who said: "The universe was lucky to have Sarah Jane Smith; the world was lucky to have Lis."
