David Walliams' book turned into TV movie

David Walliams' best-selling children's book is to be turned into a BBC One comedy drama.

The 'Britain's Got Talent' judge's book 'Mr Stink' - which is about a smelly tramp who is befriended by a girl called Chloe, who hides him in her family's shed - will be adapted into a one-hour film and will be broadcast at Christmas.

David - who has written the script for the film - said: "I am beyond thrilled that BBC One is adapting my children's book 'Mr Stink' into a family film. I have written the script and can't wait to see actors bring it to life.

"I am so excited. It's my best book and should make a fantastic Christmas film."

Details on cast members will be announced at a later date, but BBC One controller Danny Cohen described its story as a "heart-warming, nose-clenching and funny tale which will appeal to viewers of all ages".

The book, David's second children's novel, was published in 2009 and has sold 250,000 copies.

'Mr Stink' was recently shortlisted for a Blue Peter award for the best children's novel of the last decade.
