"Bovvered?"

Name: Catherine Tate, born May 12th 1968. Show: The Catherine Tate Show Set-up: A traditional-style comedy sketch show written by Tate herself, the comedienne appears as a variety of characters, from stroppy teen Lauren, Sam from idiotic couple Paul and Sam, to the foul-mouthed Nan, Irish nurse Bernie and not-gay-at-all-no-sirree Derek Faye. Standout moment: Her sketch for 2007’s Comic Relief where as Lauren, she was trying to tell then-Prime Minister Tony Blair about the most famous person she’d ever met – for Blair to say “Am I bovvered? Does my face look bovvered?” back at her. Memorable catchphrases: Oh come on. You know the drill surely? “Am I bovvered?” “I dunno!” “How very dare you!” Lowest ebb: Her knuckle-chewingly embarrassing appearance as Lauren at the Royal Variety Performance in November 2005 where she asked the Queen: “Are you disrespecting me?" and mimicked the Queen's voice saying "Is one bovvered? Is one's face bovvered?” Big screen potential: Not bad. Although her comedy characters have now been put to bed, Catherine herself has her new small screen role as The Doctor’s assistant Donna Noble in Doctor Who and has already starred in movies Scenes Of A Sexual Nature, Mrs Ratcliffe’s Revolution and The Bad Mother’s Handbook. Why is she a hero? Her over-the-top cartoon-like comedy characters have produced some of the best catchphrases in comedy history, Lauren in particular. Factoid: After graduating from London’s Central School Of Drama, Tate spent a year with the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company.
