Name: Jonathan Stephen Ross, aged 47, going on 17.
Show: Friday Night With Jonathan Ross
Set-up: Now in it’s 14th series, since 2001, Ross has been setting us up for the weekend as the often irreverent, rude and hilarious host of his own chat show. Not only does he land some of the best star guests on the chat circuit, who genuinely seem to love going on the show, but he also persuades some of the hottest bands around to play out the show too. It’s the perfect fodder for a Friday night in front of the TV.
Standout moments: Presenting Ricky Gervais with a new kitten on the show after the comedian’s old cat Colin had died. Every time he cracks a joke at Heather Mills’ expense.
Memorable catchphrase: Not so much a catchphrase, but he always makes a homosexual innuendo at the start of his show about house band Four Poofs And A Piano.
Lowest ebb: Asking David Cameron if he ever had, ahem, any ‘schoolboy sexual fantasies’ about Margaret Thatcher. We are still scrubbing our mind’s eye with bleach in an effort to erase that image.
Big screen potential: Ross has already been on the silver screen with a cameo role in 1997’s Spiceworld. He also voiced the character of Doris in the UK version of Shrek 2 in 2004. His wife Jane also wrote the script for recent fantasy flick, Stardust starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro and Ricky Gervais.
Why is he a hero? Friday nights just wouldn’t be the same without him.
Factoid: Jonathan met his wife Jane Goldman, when she was a 16-year-old pop columnists on the Daily Star.
