Virgin TV are teaming up with BAFTA once more to applaud the cream of the small-screen crop

Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards in 2018

Sunday 13 May is the biggest night in the telly calendar, when BAFTA rewards the very best in television broadcast on British screens last year. Last year’s event was an absolute cracker for many reasons – but we think it was that extra bit special because we launched our very own award!

That moment in Game of Thrones

Virgin TV’s Must-See Moment Award, voted for by YOU, recognised the TV moment that got the nation talking in 2016. It was a great year for television, packed full of jaw-dropping twists and laugh-out-loud gags. Nominees included the revelation that Danny Dyer was a direct descendent of King Edward III on Who Do You Think You Are? and the awe-inspiring clash that was Game Of Thrones’ epic Battle of the Bastards (above). But it was the amazing stand-off between a baby iguana and a group of hungry snakes from Planet Earth II that was the eventual winner (and a deserved one too, if we do say so ourselves).

Relive the drama all over again below...

And speaking of memorable moments, the ceremony itself delivered them in spades. The absolutely fabulous Joanna Lumley was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship and Adeel Akhtar (Murdered By My Father) and Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) were awarded best Leading Actor and Leading Actress respectively (watch the moment Sarah picked up her BAFTA below), and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway (Entertainment Programme), Emmerdale (Soap and Continuing Drama) and Happy Valley (Drama Series) were among the other winners.

We’re invited back again to see what happens this year and the good news is, you’re our plus one! So expect more from us in the coming week including who has made the shortlist for this year’s Virgin TV Must-See-Moment Award.
