Switching broadband has never been easier

One touch switching means your new provider handles everything about the switch for you, including cancelling with your old provider.

The switching process probably won’t change much for you, except for the fact that you won’t need to contact your old provider to let them know you’re leaving. You’ll also no longer need to provide a 30-day notice period, and all billing and activation dates are handled in the background between the operators.

This means the switching process will usually work like this:

How to switch internet providers (step by step)

1. Check your current broadband contract

Either log in to your accounts or check your latest bill for a few details you will need when switching broadband providers. This includes checking the end date of your existing broadband contract, the monthly cost that you are currently paying, and any exit fees (if there are any that is).

Once you have these details to hand, you can begin to think about what you want from your next broadband package, especially if you want faster speeds.

2. Compare broadband providers

Next, you should think about what you need from your broadband package. Do you need ultrafast broadband for gaming online or working from home, or do you want to combine your broadband and TV into one helpful bundle? Make a list of what you want from a broadband package, including what broadband speed you want, then explore exactly what you can get at your address with our broadband availability checker.

3. Sign up with your new provider

Once you have browsed through what broadband packages are available and selected the one you want, it’s time to get the switching process started. Remember, you don’t have to do anything beyond placing the order – you don’t even need to contact your current broadband providers to cancel your broadband contract. Your new broadband provider will contact your current one on your behalf and arrange the switch for you.

The only time you may need to cancel the broadband contract yourself before taking out another one is if you are moving home.

4. You get a final contract date

Your old provider will then send you information about leaving your contract, which’ll include your final contract date and any fees you might owe if you’re leaving early.

If you’re happy with these terms, you’ll be able to give permission to your new provider that you want to proceed with the switch.

5. Let the switch happen

Your new provider will then handle switching your connection over just in time for the activation date you choose. You may be asked to book time with one of its engineers to install your new connection.

On the agreed upon switch date, your old service will be turned off, and your new service will be switched on. It’s as simple as that.

When is the best time to switch?

Your home’s size and layout, as well as various. You might not think there is a right time to switch to a different broadband provider, but there are a few great times when it is time to make the move. These can include the following:

  • Your current broadband contract is coming to an end

  • Your broadband speeds aren’t enough for everything you do online.

  • You’re working from home more often, or more people in your home are working from home more often

  • You’ve added more devices to your home, including smart devices

If you feel like your internet is unable to keep up with your browsing, gaming or streaming habits, and have done what you can to improve the broadband speed, then it could be time to make the switch to a faster broadband package.

Ready to switch? It's easier than you think

If you need to upgrade to a faster broadband package, you can do so with a few clicks. Switch to a broadband package with faster speeds and enjoy better reliability, less buffering and fewer WiFi tantrums.
