We don’t want to believe it. But it’s true. After 20 series and numerous spin-offs over the past 15 years, Sky Max’s comedy sports panel show A League Of Their Own is on its final lap. And we’re expecting it to be a glorious one.
This raucous show has been bringing us brilliant guests, epic challenges and memorable TV moments since it debuted all the way back in 2010. Oh, and sometimes there were quiz bits as well, although that was usually the least important aspect. And you can expect more where that came from in the final series, as host Romesh Ranganathan and regulars Jamie Redknapp, Jill Scott and Micah Richards return with the tasks, surprises and laugh-out-loud moments that have made A League Of Their Own one of the most entertaining shows on TV.
The teams will be taking on assault courses, human darts, extreme crazy golf, racing, sailing, golf: they’ll be speeding around Silverstone with Max Verstappen, racing 100km/h catamarans with Sir Ben Ainslie and Ellie Aldridge, making a heroic hole-in-one world record attempt and facing England fast bowler Jofra Archer at The Oval.

And as ever, there are superb guests from the world of sport like legendary England footballer Wayne Rooney, women’s Euros hero Chloe Kelly, MMA fighter Paddy Pimblett, boxing icon Tony Bellew and all-time great Olympic cyclist Dame Laura Kenny, as well as hilarious comedians Josh Widdicombe, Jon Richardson, Maisie Adam, Chris McCausland, Tom Davis and more.
The 20th series begins at 9pm on Wednesday 12 November on Sky Showcase HD (CH 109) and Sky Max HD (CH 111), kicking off with special guests Rooney, Maya Jama and Alex Brooker.
And along with the great guests, we’ve loved spending time with the brilliant hosts, team captains and regular panellists, including the likes of James Corden, Freddie Flintoff, Georgie Thompson, Mo Gilligan and John Bishop. As the show starts its final lap, we’re looking back at the best bits of the current line-up, with plenty of the outrageous moments that have made this show such a firm favourite. Read on and be prepared to shout with laughter…
Jamie Redknapp
)
A team captain from the very start, the ex-England midfielder was known as a handsome, slick pundit although… perhaps… a little bland? Joining ALOTO revealed his fun side, as he got stuck in and gave as good as he got.
How long has he been on the show? He’s in every episode
Best moment: The panic as he realised the flames on his boxing gloves weren’t going out, leading him to leap around like a loon. (Series 19, episode 1)
Romesh Ranganathan
)
After two series as a panellist, Ranganathan took over as presenter from Corden and, fortunately for us, didn’t let his newfound responsibility stop him from lacerating everyone in sight with his savage wit.
How long has he been on the show? He was a regular panellist in series 13 and 14, and has been the host since series 15
Best moment: He keeps the captains and guests on their toes, so it was hilariously appropriate when Richards took the instruction to sweep him off his feet extremely literally. (Series 17, episode 8)
Jill Scott
)
Having won the Euros with England and been crowned Queen of the Jungle, Scott brought her sunny personality and sporting prowess to the show, never shirking a challenge and firing off some excellent zingers.
How long has she been on the show? Since the start of series 18
Best moment: Impressing with her melon control (steady) while doing keepy-ups with a Galia – and then wanging it mercilessly at Redknapp. (Series 18, episode 1)
Micah Richards
)
He’s a familiar face as one of TV’s most in-demand football pundits, and with his booming laugh and highly competitive streak, the ex-Man City and England defender has proved a perfect addition to ALOTO.
How long has he been on the show? He was a guest in series 10, 15 and 16, becoming a regular in series 17
Best moment: He’s constantly trying to prove his mettle, which made it almost too perfect when he tested a slippery surface before a challenge and – whoops! – performed a classic pratfall. (Series 17, episode 8)
