Picture the scene. The sun is shining, you’ve got your toes in the sand and you’re taking some much-needed time out to relax with your loved ones. We’re not talking about sunning it up in some far-flung destination, though, but Danny Dyer’s vision of the Great British holiday. And he wants to revive it.

In The Dyers’ Caravan Park, Danny puts his money, reputation and sanity on the line to modernise the Priory Hill & Nutts Farm holiday park in Leysdown, Kent, and inspire a new generation of holidaygoers to enjoy a classic holiday break on British shores.

So, what inspired the EastEnder to take on this mammoth task? “I’ve romanticised going down to Canvey Island with my nan and grandad and cousins. It was a real family thing in the 80s,” says Danny. We couldn’t agree more. Of course, Danny’s going to need a helping hand or two, so he’s bringing his daughter Dani on board to return the struggling seaside park to its former glory.

And you can watch The Dyers’ Caravan Park at 9pm on Tuesday 24 February on iconic TV channel Sky One (CH 109), the new home of Sky’s unmissable comedy and entertainment programmes. Replacing Sky Showcase and Sky Max to make it easier than ever for viewers to find must-watch telly, Sky One brings together showstopping new TV alongside fan favourites Rob & Romesh Vs.., The Paper, Ted and more, all in one place. Smashing.

Read on as we answer all your burning questions about the Dyers’ incredible transformation of Priory Hill & Nutts Farm, the holiday park where sports day prizes include free Slush Puppies, a week’s worth of fry-ups and a beachside date with Danny himself. Right this way…

1. Who are the Dyers?

Danny Dyer is an award-winning actor and presenter, who first burst on to our screens in 1999 as Moff in the cult coming-of-age drama Human Traffic. Since then, he’s taken on “tough guy” roles in Football Factory, Outlaw and The Business, and most famously as EastEnders’ bad boy Mick Carter. Since departing Albert Square in 2022, he’s won a BAFTA for his performance in the critically acclaimed comedy Mr Bigstuff and stars in the hit screen adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s novel Rivals.

Meanwhile, Dyer’s daughter Dani (how’s that for a tongue-twister?) rose to fame as a Love Island contestant, winning the series in 2018. Since leaving the villa her career has gone from strength to strength, with Channel 4 documentary Dani Dyer: Is This Anxiety?, appearances on Celebrity MasterChef and Strictly Come Dancing (although she had to pull out with injury early on) and most recently as the joint winner of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The father-and-daughter duo have also appeared on TV together before, with stints on Celebrity Gogglebox and their travel series Absolutely Dyer: Danny And Dani Do Italy.

2. What’s their new show about?

Danny Dyer does the rounds on The Dyers’ Caravan Park.

The Dyers’ latest TV venture sees them diving headfirst into the holiday park industry. Inspired by misty-eyed memories of childhood holidays by the seaside, Danny is channelling his nostalgia, passion and business ambitions into a mission to save the great British holiday. How? By transforming a caravan park on the Kent coast into a successful holiday hotspot for locals and tourists alike, with daughter Dani along for the ride.

But it’s not all fun and games for the pair, as they quickly learn that running a holiday park is worlds away from the celebrity lifestyle that they’re used to. From fixing dodgy plumbing to dealing with demanding punters and everything in between, the Dyers have their work cut out for them and that’s all while having to impress the park’s owners, the site director and, most importantly of all, the residents!

3. Who else is involved?

Welcoming the Dyers to the holiday park is Priory Hill & Nutts Farm co-owner Jimi Butcher, who has run the 50-year-old family business alongside sister Alex since the death of their father. “I think what we’ve achieved, he [my dad] would be really proud of,” Jimi says.

Site director and newly minted Dyers fan Paul Shaw adds, “It’s so surreal looking back on what we’ve done this year. It’s just crazy, and it was so much fun. They [the Dyers] threw themselves into everything. I’d probably say manual labour is not their thing.” We can relate!

4. Where’s the caravan park?

Dani Dyer stars alongsider her father in The Dyers’ Caravan Park.

The Priory Hill & Nutts Farm holiday park is in the small village of Leysdown-on-Sea on the east coast of the Isle of Sheppey. Known for its beautiful beaches and strong-knit community, the location proved the perfect choice for the Dyers challenge. In fact, they were able to use the caravan park’s built-in rivalry for its inaugural sports day. “Priory Hill and Nutts Farm is all the same caravan park but they’re on opposite sides of the road and they don’t like each other very much,” explains Danny. “So, I thought I’ll bring them together by basically pitting them against each other, and it worked!”

Long-time resident Jimi hopes that the series will do great things for his home town. “I was born on the island, and I grew up here for the most part, so I hope that the show’s not just good for the park but for the Leysdown as well.”

5. What challenges did the Dyers face?

Danny Dyer rolls up his sleeves in The Dyers’ Caravan Park.

With exotic destinations, tight budgets and high expectations threatening traditional holiday sites in the UK, the Dyers weren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and hit the ground running. From “scrubbing khazis” and mopping floors (“No one can mop a floor like I can!” insists Dani) to using sage to cleanse caravans of negative energy, there were plenty of not-so-glamorous tasks to crack on with. Were they successful? Well as site manager Paul says, “Danny got the lawnmower stuck. He drove it into a swampy area and got it completely stuck, covered in mud – then he got off and left it.” Whoops.

The Dyer duo did manage to sprinkle some glitz and glam into the park’s now jam-packed schedule, though. Alongside freshening up the bar’s beer selection, plans to build a new playground and shaking up the park’s traditional bingo nights, Danny had one starry trick left up his sleeve when it came to sorting out the park’s entertainment. “I had to try and get some big guns down. I went through my phone book, and we had an amazing ‘80s night,” he says. Now that’s a tribute act!

6. How did the caravan park residents respond?

While you’ll have to watch the six-part series to see exactly how the residents reacted to a camera crew arriving at Priory Hill & Nutts Farm, the Dyers have been gushing about their experience. “We adored the residents. I loved all the old girls,” says Dani. “We were petrified because these residents have been there for years and years, passed down caravans, passed down chalets… We wanted to give everyone an amazing summer, and hopefully we’ve done that.”

Danny adds, “It was really heartwarming to hear that some of the people have really enjoyed having us down there. I do feel these are my kind of people. My roots and my fanbase are very much working-class and I’m very proud of where I’m from. It’s important, especially now, to give working-class people a voice, so I really hope this show does that.” Case closed.
