Hell Or High Water
Sunday 1 February, 10pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
Before Taylor Sheridan was creating TV megahits like Yellowstone and Landman, he was acclaimed for his movie screenplays including Sicario and this Oscar-nominated thriller about two brothers carrying out bank heists in Texas. They’re smart planners, with a clever way to launder the cash that makes it untraceable, but there’s a problem. Older brother Tanner (Ben Foster, 3:10 To Yuma) is a hothead, and his recklessness is endangering the vision Toby (Chris Pine, Star Trek) has for the future. Jeff Bridges is the lawman on their trail, and the spectacular landscapes of the American South form a dazzling backdrop to a muscular but thoughtful movie.
The Six Continents Revealed
)
Mondays, 7.20pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
When the supercontinent known as Pangea broke up over 200 million years ago, the continents shifted and began a story that has shaped the history of humanity. Across six episodes, this series examines how nature influenced cultures: from the abundant resources that affected the development of societies in Australia and North America to the sometimes inhospitable climate in Asia and Africa that determined how people lived and thrived. Realistic 3D animations allow viewers to experience sinking land masses, explosive volcanos and raging storms as well as seeing breathtaking landscapes, soaring mountains and arid deserts from above.
American Ocelot
Monday 2 February, 8.05pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
There are fewer than 80 known ocelots remaining in the United States, making it the country’s most endangered cat, so each kitten is absolutely precious to the future of the American ocelot population. Take a trip to south Texas with wildlife film-maker Ben Masters to meet these rarely seen cats in their brush habitat. Filmed with cutting-edge trap cameras, American Ocelot is an unprecedented glimpse into the struggle and determination required for a mother ocelot to successfully raise her young – when the stakes could not be higher.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
)
Thursdays, 9.30pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
Between the original 1990s movies starring Buffy’s Sarah Michelle Gellar and the 2025 movie reboot came this TV version of the slasher classic. Madison Iseman from the new Jumanji films plays twin sisters Lennon (the popular one) and Alison (the “weird, boring” one), who along with their friends are stalked by a killer a year after covering up a fatal car accident. It’s an enjoyably over-the-top story told with relish and highly effective scares, and filmed on the extremely telegenic island of Oahu.
Train To Busan
)
Sunday 8 February, 10pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
On Rotten Tomatoes, Train To Busan is the second highest-rated zombie movie of all time, with a score of 95%. An assortment of ordinary passengers – a financier and his young daughter, a high school baseball team, a pair of elderly sisters – board a passenger train in Seoul, bound for Busan. But the last person to board is looking seriously unwell, and her ailment turns out to be both quite bitey and extremely virulent. Who will survive as the outbreak spreads through the carriages? Gripping, wildly entertaining and (like all the best zombie films) packed with social commentary, Train To Busan is a treat – if you can bear all the bloodiness in super-clear ultra HD.
Smart Swarms
)
Thursday 12 + Friday 13 February, 8.10pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
Swarms – insects, animals, birds or even humans – are powerful and complex coordinated actions between individuals, working together to benefit the community. In this two-part documentary, experts use fascinating high-speed recordings and thermal images to break down swarm codes, explain strange collective behaviour and clarify the lessons we can take from nature to bring about astounding technological advances. You’ll get a clear picture of the intelligence amid the organised chaos, even as you’re hypnotised by the swarms’ astonishing beauty.
Showgirls
)
Sunday 15 February, 10pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
A tale of sex, sequins and social climbing, 1995’s Showgirls was denounced as one of the worst films ever made on its release. But it didn’t take long to earn a reappraisal, as audiences and critics began to appreciate it for the outrageous, camp trash its creators intended it to be. Nomi (Elizabeth Berkley) arrives in Las Vegas with dreams of making it as a showgirl, but gets drawn into a seedy world of stripping, violence and exploitation. Eye-opening might be the best word for it. Those sequins look extra shiny in ultra HD. Also starring Gina Gershon (The Assassin) and Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks).
The Loco-Motion Picture
Monday 16 November, 7.20pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
Crawling, climbing, swimming, flying… Over billions of years, evolution has found numerous ways for living beings to move. Some are common, some decidedly quirky, but each is perfectly suited to help the creatures to find food, to reproduce, or to find a shelter from the weather or predators. This fascinating film shows how different these types of locomotion are, with close-up, ultra-high-definition images of everything from ants and snakes to monkeys and raptors. Ever-changing circumstances are constantly driving animals from one place to another and the variety of movement is mesmerising.
Blood Simple
Sunday 22 February, 10pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
The Coen Brothers – the genius film-makers behind Fargo, No Country For Old Men and countless acclaimed and award-laden movies – announced their arrival in 1985 with this atmospheric noir thriller. A bar owner hires a private investigator to check up on his wife’s fidelity, and when he discovers her affair, orders the PI to deal with it for good. But as Coens fans will know, crime is never the easy way in their movies, especially when there’s money involved. And bloodstains are hard to shift… Smart and stylish, it’s a genuine classic of the genre, starring future multi-Oscar winner Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Dan Hedaya (The Usual Suspects) and M Emmet Walsh (Knives Out).
Sting: Live At Chambord
)
Friday 27 February, 9pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 175/999)
The beautiful Château de Chambord in Blois, France – a UNESCO World Heritage site – is the setting for this remarkable concert from Sting, legendary former bassist/vocalist of The Police and wildly successful solo artist. Enjoy enduring hits such as “Message In A Bottle”, “Every Breath You Take” and “Fields Of Gold”, as well as a showstopping encore of “Roxanne”, in front of an incredible backdrop that lends real grandeur to the occasion.
