Garfield Kart 2: All You Can Drift

Available from Wednesday 10 September on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch

Garfield might not like Mondays (who does?), but he does love racing away at breakneck speeds in this enormously fun arcade racing game. Play as the lasagna-loving feline, Odie, Jon, Nermal and other iconic characters from the cartoon as you pit yourself against your friends (up to eight players online, or four players locally on split-screen mode) on wacky circuits from three unique universes. Find your way through mysterious detective scenes, brave the pirate seas or kick up dust along old cowboy trails. With shortcuts and bonus items to change the course of races (and possibly your friendships if you win), Garfield Kart 2 is entertaining any day of the week.

Borderlands 4

Available from Friday 12 September on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S

The vaults are open, and the chaos is back. Borderlands 4 – the latest entry in the franchise that defined looter-shooters – catapults you to the war-torn planet Kairos, where you’ll join a rebellion against the tyrannical Timekeeper and his synthetic army. Choose from four new Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities, and dive into a seamless, open-world experience without loading screens. Developer Gearbox says this entry has more than 30 billion possible weapon combinations, which should keep us all busy for a while. Featuring the same over-the-top action and humour we’ve come to expect from the series, we cannot wait.

NHL 26

Available from Friday 12 September on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S

You know the drill now with sports sims each year. More authentic, new features, big upgrades. Tick. Tick. Tick. That’s certainly the deal with NHL 26, which features major updates to the action on the ice. Powered by the NHL EDGE system, this year’s entry introduces ICE-Q 2.0, translating real-world player data into authentic on-ice behaviour. From skating speed to shot power, every movement mirrors the pros. Enhanced goalie AI and expanded X-Factor abilities also adds depth to your gameplay. All that, plus an all-new, dynamic game mode experience in Hockey Ultimate Team called Seasons, where every match-up matters.

LEGO Voyagers

Available from Monday 15 September on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2

The “aww” factor is high in one of the cutest games of 2025. Set against an atmospheric soundtrack in beautifully crafted brick-built environments, you play as two tiny LEGO bricks who embark on a journey to rescue an abandoned spaceship. Honestly, we can’t do the beauty of this gorgeous co-op adventure justice, which is appropriate as the game itself is non-verbal. So, stop reading and watch the trailer. Pleasing, for a company that encourages play, you can invite a friend to join your adventure for free with the Friend’s Pass, and you’ll only need one copy of the game. A lovely touch.

Dying Light: The Beast

Available from Friday 19 September on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

The parkour horror series is back, and this time the monsters aren’t the only things evolving. Dying Light: The Beast drops you into a city that feels more alive (and more hostile) than ever, with unpredictable weather, shifting factions and – the signature of the Dying Light series – two vastly different experiences of day and night, with the infected even scarier once the sun goes down. As Kyle Crane, you’ll also get to switch between two playstyles as you experience a fierce inner conflict between man and monster. Combat is faster, bloodier and smarter, rewarding creativity with your environment. Plus, 4-player co-op is just glorious chaos.

Silent Hill f

Available from Tuesday 23 September on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

It has been a long time since the last mainline game in the legendary Silent Hill series – 13 years, in fact – so the expectations are high. Set in 1960s Japan, it follows Shimizu Hinako, whose secluded town of Ebisugaoka is consumed by fog, transforming her home into a haunting nightmare. Honestly, if you watch the trailer for the game that blends psychological horror with a haunting Japanese setting, you’ll think the “f” stands for the expletive we yelled when we jumped out of our skins. For those brave enough, you’ll navigate Ebisugaoka’s twisted paths, solve complex puzzles and confront grotesque monsters to survive. Blimey.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Available from Thursday 25 September on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch

There’s a good argument that all kart racing games are playing for second place when the OG is still throwing out banana skins and blue shells. But this next chapter in the Sonic Racing series that adds multiverse chaos into the equation looks excellent. Here, speed isn’t just about loops and boosts but portals that fling you across entire dimensions. One minute you’re drifting through Green Hill, the next you’re skidding across a neon cyberpunk city or bouncing around a pinball-inspired arena. With the usual solo and offline and online modes, plus customisation and – crucially – it is availability on non-Nintendo platforms, this is a contender for the podium.

EA Sports FC 26

Available from Friday 26 September on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

Not just the biggest football game in the world, but potentially the biggest video game release of the year. The pull of these games has always been the authenticity – and this year features 20,000+ players across 750+ clubs and national teams in 120 stadiums and 35+ leagues. But now it’s matched by peerless gameplay, which has been overhauled this season based on community feedback and now gives you two ways to play based on whatever mode you’re into. With a load of tweaks under the hood, plus updates to Ultimate Team, the best just got even better.

LEGO Party

Available from Tuesday 30 September on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

A second LEGO game in September feels like the opposite of standing on a LEGO brick: lucky. It’s the latest title vying for your next multiplayer night in – but, naturally, it has its work cut out against giants in the field like Mario Party. It has a lot going for it, with quirky charm in abundance. Like the title mentioned earlier, you and your friends move around a board playing 60 unique minigames. The twist here is that you’ll play those minigames as minifigures, with countless customisation options. The strength of these games is your own competitiveness, so get ready to bring it. Just don’t brick it…

Little Nightmares III

Available from Friday 10 October on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

In a world where so many video games feel like they neatly fit into a genre or type, along comes a game like Little Nightmares III. You play as Low and Alone, trapped in the sinister Spiral – a warped, interconnected world full of grotesque monsters, twisted architecture and puzzles designed to test both your nerve and your brainpower. Unlike the previous games, this one’s built for co-op, so you and a friend can stumble through the dark together. The design is still that perfect mix of storybook charm and nightmare fuel, which is to say: you’ll be equal parts delighted and disturbed.

Just Dance 2026 Edition

Available from Tuesday 14 October on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch

Your excitement about this year’s Just Dance release will be based on whether you’re a good dancer or someone with enough confidence to give it a go. At launch, you’ll bag 40 new tracks, including APT. by ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, Houdini by Dua Lipa, Counting Stars by OneRepublic, Hung Up by Madonna and All Star by Smash Mouth. Plus, there’s a new co-op Party Mode with fun twists on the usual experience. The real tragedy of these games is that no one pulls out moves like these in clubs – you only ever see them when playing Just Dance or doom-scrolling TikTok. A pity, really.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Available from Thursday 16 October on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

It’s happening: we’re going back to Kalos. Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes place in a reimagined Lumiose City, and we’re very excited. The last time we were here was more than a decade ago in Pokémon X and Y – and now we get to see the Paris-like capital blown up into a sprawling open world, packed with secrets, vertical exploration and, yes, plenty of cafés. The vibe is part urban adventure, part futuristic mystery, with Mega Evolutions also making a comeback. You’ll still be sneaking up on wild Pokémon, chucking Poké Balls and building out your dream team, but this time the stakes feel bigger. Game Informer said it may be the “best Pokémon game in years”. Yes, chef!
