Here’s all you need to know about the best game releases in August and September 2025…
Gears Of War: Reloaded
Available from Tuesday 26 August on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S
Remember the OG Gears Of War? It was gritty, chainsaw-blazing third-person mayhem in a world devastated by the Locust. It defined the world of gaming forever – quite literally, it was a “game changer”. Gears Of War: Reloaded revives that iconic title in stunning modern form. In this remastered edition, you’ll dive back into the battle for Sera with the complete campaign alongside all the post-launch content from the original title, including a bonus campaign act, multiplayer maps, plus characters and cosmetics – all delivered in cutting-edge 2025 visuals.
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater
Available from Thursday 28 August on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S
Remade for today’s consoles, in the shadows of the Cold War, a lone operative is dropped deep into hostile jungle territory, armed only with his wits, a combat knife and an unshakable mission: rescue, sabotage, survive. This acclaimed origin story of Naked Snake – long ranked among the best games of all time – takes everything you loved from the original and breathes new life into it. Every scratch, bruise and bullet wound tells the tale of your journey, captured in haunting detail as the landscape itself becomes a silent enemy. An all-new online multiplayer mode will follow later this year.
Hell Is Us
Available from Thursday 4 September on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S
In a world where many video games hold your hand, in comes this action-adventure game with no maps, no compass, no quest markers. You’ll explore a country suffering from a mysterious calamity, which has given rise to supernatural creatures that no modern weapon can defeat, all on your own terms. Follow your instincts and learn how to fight these monsters with a tight, brutal and intense melee combat system. It’s part investigation, part monster-hunt and part meditation on the chaos we create – and the things we can never truly control.
Cronos: The New Dawn
Available from Friday 5 September on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2
Fans of survival horror will find lots to love in Cronos: The New Dawn, as you’re thrown into the heart of a deadly struggle against overwhelming foes, all while uncovering the mysteries of a twisted time travel story. You play as a lone “Traveler” navigating time-ripped landscapes, from the crumbling streets of Soviet-era Poland to the metallic sprawl of humanity’s last bastions. Armed with customisable melee weapons, ranged firepower and a device capable of stepping through unstable rifts, you’ll uncover long-buried secrets, solve environmental puzzles and face enemies that force you to adapt your tactics on the fly.
Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots
Available from Friday 5 September on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2
Everybody’s favourite golf game series finally returns to the fairway – and for the first time, this former PlayStation-exclusive title is available on a range of platforms. If you’re new to the franchise, Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots delivers the series’ signature three-tap shot mechanic, now sprinkled with a bold new flair. Choose from more than 25 playable characters and play in dynamic day-to-night courses, unpredictable weather and new challenges that turn golf into mayhem. With more than 100 tournaments and courses inspired by 10 regions around the world, plus modes like Scramble, Survival and the chaotic Wacky Golf, it’s a (ahem) PAR-TEE that everyone’s invited to.
NBA 2K26
Available from Friday 5 September on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
NBA 2K26 delivers a next-level court experience where every bead of sweat, uniform stitch and wristband-lit crowd moment is a shot of pure realism. Thanks to the evolution of ProPLAY – first introduced to the NBA series last year – players can pivot, cut and glide with lifelike fluidity, while rhythm-based shooting finally lets you control tempo, timing and body mechanics with pinpoint precision. It also utilises real-world NBA footage to influence everything that happens on the court. Throw in MyCAREER with a draft-day storyline, customise your MyPLAYER with deeper insights or dominate the arena in MyTEAM and MyNBA, it’s the ultimate experience for basketball fans.
Garfield Kart 2: All You Can Drift
Available from Wednesday 10 September on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch
Garfield might not like Mondays (who does?), but he does love racing away at breakneck speeds in this enormously fun arcade racing game. Play as the lasagna-loving feline, Odie, Jon, Nermal and other iconic characters from the cartoon as you pit yourself against your friends (up to eight players online, or four players locally on split-screen mode) on wacky circuits from three unique universes. Find your way through mysterious detective scenes, brave the pirate seas or kick up dust along old cowboy trails. With shortcuts and bonus items to change the course of races (and possibly your friendships if you win), Garfield Kart 2 is entertaining any day of the week.
Borderlands 4
Available from Friday 12 September on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S
The vaults are open, and the chaos is back. Borderlands 4 – the latest entry in the franchise that defined looter-shooters – catapults you to the war-torn planet Kairos, where you’ll join a rebellion against the tyrannical Timekeeper and his synthetic army. Choose from four new Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities, and dive into a seamless, open-world experience without loading screens. Developer Gearbox says this entry has more than 30 billion possible weapon combinations, which should keep us all busy for a while. Featuring the same over-the-top action and humour we’ve come to expect from the series, we cannot wait.
NHL 26
Available from Friday 12 September on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S
You know the drill now with sports sims each year. More authentic, new features, big upgrades. Tick. Tick. Tick. That’s certainly the deal with NHL 26, which features major updates to the action on the ice. Powered by the NHL EDGE system, this year’s entry introduces ICE-Q 2.0, translating real-world player data into authentic on-ice behaviour. From skating speed to shot power, every movement mirrors the pros. Enhanced goalie AI and expanded X-Factor abilities also adds depth to your gameplay. All that, plus an all-new, dynamic game mode experience in Hockey Ultimate Team called Seasons, where every match-up matters.
LEGO Voyagers
Available from Monday 15 September on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2
The “aww” factor is high in one of the cutest games of 2025. Set against an atmospheric soundtrack in beautifully crafted brick-built environments, you play as two tiny LEGO bricks who embark on a journey to rescue an abandoned spaceship. Honestly, we can’t do the beauty of this gorgeous co-op adventure justice, which is appropriate as the game itself is non-verbal. So, stop reading and watch the trailer. Pleasing, for a company that encourages play, you can invite a friend to join your adventure for free with the Friend’s Pass, and you’ll only need one copy of the game. A lovely touch.
