With our WiFi Guarantee with WiFi Max, you’ll enjoy download speeds of at least 30Mbps in every room or get £100 bill credit on your next bill. This goes hand in hand with our self-optimising Intelligent WiFi technology that’s loaded onto our Hubs 3, 4, 5 and 5x and adapts to what’s happening in your home to give you the most reliable WiFi, all the time.
Our WiFi Guarantee comes at no extra cost with our Gigabit Broadband and Volt packages. If you're on an eligible M50 to M500 Fibre Broadband package, you can add WiFi Max for £8 a month, with your first WiFi Pod included if you need one.
Keep reading to find out how WiFi Pods work and how they can help you get better WiFi coverage throughout your home.
What are WiFi Pods and how do they work?
)
Our mesh WiFi Pods help bring a stronger WiFi signal to the areas of your home that need it most. Working seamlessly with your Virgin Media Hub, they help extend coverage throughout your home, so you can stream, game, scroll and browse more reliably – even in rooms where the WiFi signal is usually weaker.
The Pods are smart, too. They constantly adapt and evolve to what’s happening in your home, choosing the best connection for each device and delivering reliable WiFi whatever room you’re in. They also optimise against any interference (accounting for a neighbour’s WiFi, say) automatically. To install a WiFi Pod, follow these simple instructions in our installation guide.
Why might I need one or more WiFi Pods?
)
Your home’s size and layout, as well as various devices, appliances and materials, can all interfere with your WiFi Pods’ signal, so the positioning of your WiFi Pods is just as important as the positioning of your Hub or router.
Avoid placing them behind furniture, near electronic-emitting appliances such as microwaves, on extension leads or close to the floor. Instead, install them where they can perform at their best: out in the open, as high as possible and away from other tech devices.
How do I test to see if I need a WiFi Pod?
It’s pretty straightforward using the My Virgin Media app. Follow these steps to find out if you need one.
On your My Virgin Media app, go to Service Status, then Broadband and Test your Hub.
We’ll run a service status check to make sure there are no issues with our equipment or your home connection. The results will be saved to your account automatically.
If the app detects WiFi coverage issues, it will offer step-by-step tips to help improve signal strength, coverage and speed around your home.
You’ll be asked to run a WiFi speed test, powered by Cisco. Find a location in your home where the signal is poor – your device must be connected to your Virgin Media Hub via WiFi, and there must be some signal for the test to work. The results will be saved to your account automatically.
We’ll review the speed test results and, if needed, guide you through ordering your first WiFi Pod.
If you’re getting download speeds of lower than 30Mbps, you could benefit from adding WiFi Max, if it’s not already part of your package.
How do I get a second or third WiFi Pod for my home?
If you've already set up your first WiFi Pod but you're still finding that the WiFi signal is weak in another part of your home, you can check whether you're eligible for another one.
Run a Virgin Media service status test on your broadband by using the My Virgin Media app or our Service Status Checker, and if there are no other broadband faults that could be causing the issue, you’ll be able to follow the WiFi signal improvement steps and order a second or third WiFi Pod.
If your WiFi could still do with a boost in some areas after that, you'll be able to order a second or third WiFi Pod to help improve coverage in more areas of your home.
