Filming locations for The Jetty

The BBC's gripping psychological thriller The Jetty is set in a beautiful lakeside town in Lancashire – but beneath the scenic surface lies a dark web of secrets, lies and dangerous obsessions. And while the story unfolds in Lancashire, much of the filming actually took place across the border in Cumbria, West Yorkshire and around Manchester.

If you've been watching and wondering where all those moody landscapes and atmospheric locations are, you're in the right place.

The Lake District, Cumbria

The show's stunning lakeside setting is actually filmed around the Lake District in Cumbria. This UNESCO World Heritage Site provides the perfect backdrop for the drama's brooding atmosphere, with its deep waters, misty hills and remote stretches of countryside adding to the sense of isolation and unease.

Derwentwater and Ullswater, both known for their dramatic natural beauty, instantly set the tone for the series. The jetty itself – central to the story – was built as a set piece on location to capture those haunting waterside scenes.

Hollingworth Lake & Rowing Club, Rochdale, Greater Manchester

Hollingworth Lake is one of the most recognisable filming locations in the series — that cold, deep and often mist-covered stretch of water that sets the tone from the very first episode. Located in Rochdale, it gives the show its moody, unsettling edge.

Other scenes were also shot at the neighbouring Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club. With its wide windows overlooking the water, the lake is ever-present in the background — a constant reminder of the secrets it holds.

Keswick, Cumbria

The market town of Keswick doubled as the show's fictional town centre. You'll recognise the Victorian streets, independent shops and cosy cafés that feature throughout the series. Keswick sits on the shores of Derwentwater and is a popular destination for walkers and tourists – though it's considerably less sinister in real life than it appears on-screen.

The town's Moot Hall, a historic landmark in the centre of the Market Square, can be spotted in several episodes as Detective Ember Manning investigates the mystery at the heart of the drama.

Pooley Bridge, Ullswater, Cumbria

This picturesque village at the northern tip of Ullswater appears in several of the show’s outdoor scenes. The stone bridge, riverside paths and traditional cottages create an idyllic setting that contrasts with the dark secrets in the story.

In reality, Pooley Bridge is a small, peaceful village popular with boaters and hikers – and it's easy to see why the production team chose it for those quieter, reflective moments in the story.

Castlerigg Stone Circle, near Keswick, Cumbria

One of the Lake District's most atmospheric locations, Castlerigg Stone Circle appears in the series as a meeting spot that adds an eerie, ancient feel to the drama. Dating back to around 3000 BC, the stone circle is surrounded by mountains and offers sweeping views – perfect for those tense, cinematic moments.

It's one of Britain's earliest stone circles and a favourite with visitors who want to soak up the landscape and history.

Askham, Cumbria

The rural village of Askham, near Penrith, appears in several residential scenes. Its traditional stone cottages and village green give the series that authentic “everyone knows everyone” vibe.

Askham is a conservation village, so its historic buildings and quiet lanes barely changed over the years, making it ideal for filming period or contemporary dramas that need a timeless look.

Todmorden, West Yorkshire

This small market town in West Yorkshire is about 17 miles north-east of Manchester, and it pops up throughout the series. Todmorden's got that authentic northern feel: narrow streets, stone buildings and a quiet, slightly old-fashioned charm that works perfectly for a drama about secrets in a small town.

Todmorden has been used before for ITV's mystery horror Passenger, so clearly the location scouts know it's got something special.

The police station - Manchester

The police station you see in The Jetty doesn't actually exist. The crew built it as a set inside a building in Manchester specifically for filming. So if you're planning a detective-themed day trip, you won't find this one on the map.
