Your December calendar on Sky Sports

Your December calendar on Sky Sports

There’s a festive feast of sporting action all this month, from huge Premier League clashes to the world’s biggest darts championship

The year may be ending but the action certainly isn’t – December is absolutely jam-packed with top-notch sport to enjoy!

Sky Sports December round-up

There are plenty of distractions at this time of year, but let’s be honest – how long does Christmas shopping really take these days? Half an hour with a few online retailers and you’re sorted, giving you plenty of time to watch all the live action on Sky Sports throughout December. It’s definitely a time to indulge, and not just with the fancy treats that are suddenly spilling out of every cupboard in your kitchen.

It’s a traditionally busy time in the football calendar, with huge clashes in England’s Premier League and Football League as well as the Scottish Prem, but that’s not all – there’s the England cricket team on tour, the end of the NFL season and, of course, the big daddy of year-ending sporting events, the PDC World Darts Championship – three weeks of dazzling skill and incredible tension from London’s Alexandra Palace. So decorate the tree, get the mince pies in and look forward to a month of fantastic sport.

Thursday 19 December to Wednesday 25 December

This Premier League season has defied expectations in many ways. Tottenham have been progressing every year under Mauricio Pochettino and reached the Champions League final in June, but their form this term has nosedived. Conversely, expectations at Chelsea were as low as they have been for a while, with an inexperienced manager in Frank Lampard and a ban on new signings. But the Blues have breezed through the past few months with impressive performances from young players like Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount.

After holding on to star midfielder Paul Pogba and securing the high-profile signings of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James, Manchester United might have been expected to return to the Champions League places – but early struggles left them with an uphill battle. Watford, meanwhile, spent most of 2018/19 in the Prem’s top half and reached the FA Cup final, but a run of disastrous results prompted a change of manager in September – and the threat of relegation still looms… See all four in action on Sky Sports on the Sunday before Christmas.

The rules of the all-new World Test Championship may be hard to get your head around – don’t get us started on the runs-per-wicket ratio – but there’s no doubt that everyone involved wants to win it. England may not have prised the Ashes out of Australia’s grasp this summer, but the drawn series got them off to a respectable start in the championship; South Africa began with the toughest possible test in India, where they duly suffered a 3-0 thrashing to leave them on zero points. Both teams will be keen to improve their chances of reaching the final (in June 2021!) as their four-match series commences with a Boxing Day Test in Centurion.

As always, there’s plenty of football action in the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. That includes Edinburgh and Glasgow derbies in the Scottish Premiership, a top-of the-table clash in League One, an intriguing all-London Premier League match-up at the Emirates and Jürgen Klopp’s high-flying Liverpool at home to Nuno Espírito Santo’s dangerous Wolves. With so much to watch, you’ll barely have time to play with your new toys!
