How do I set parental controls on the Virgin Media TV Go app?

Last updated: May 31, 2018

Worried about what’s being watched with Virgin TV Go? Don’t worry, we’ve got it covered.

Virgin TV Go has PIN protection across all your devices, which allows you to set an age rating restriction to control what can be watched via On Demand using Virgin TV Go. Watching Live TV with Virgin TV Go is not PIN protected, as channels show content appropriate to the watershed times. And if you've got a compatible mobile device you can use to your fingerprints or face scan to enter your PIN.

By default the age rating restriction is set to ask for a PIN for all On Demand content rated PG and above, and the default PIN in Virgin TV Go is 0000.

Follow the instructions below in order to set a PIN and update the age rating restriction with Virgin TV Go.

NOTE: Your Virgin TV Go PIN is separate to your Virgin TV box PIN and the Sky PIN. For details on using a PIN with your Virgin TV Box see Your Virgin TV PIN. For details on using a PIN with the Sky Cinema and Sky Sports apps and website see PIN Protection for the Sky Cinema and Sky Sports apps and website.

Using a PIN with Virgin TV Go

When an age rating is set Virgin TV Go will ask for a PIN for any On Demand show with that age rating or a higher age rating. This restriction applies at all times of the day.

Once you've entered your PIN in Virgin TV Go, you won’t be prompted to enter the PIN again on that device for 2 hours. After 2 hours you’ll be prompted for the PIN next time you choose a show to watch that is rated the same as, or higher than the age rating restriction.

You’ll also be prompted for the PIN if you change your age rating restriction, or if you sign out of a device and sign in again.

Setting a PIN

The default PIN for Virgin TV Go is 0000.

You can update this PIN through the Virgin TV Go apps and website. The Virgin TV Go PIN is shared between your Virgin TV Go devices.

To set a PIN:

  1. Sign in to Virgin TV Go using your primary My Virgin Media username and password
  2. Select or Tap on Settings
  3. Select Change PIN. On some devices this may under Parental Settings
  4. When prompted for your username and password, enter the same one for the My Virgin Media account you used to sign in to Virgin TV Go
  5. Enter your current PIN. If you can’t remember the existing PIN, you can reset it to the default value of 0000. This will reset your PIN across your Virgin TV Go devices
  6. Enter and then confirm your new PIN
  7. Your Virgin TV Go PIN will be updated on all your devices

Using PIN Auto-Fill

If you're using Virgin TV Go on an Android device with a Fingerprint reader, or an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch with Touch ID or Face ID, you can use a fingerprint or face scan to enter your PIN instead of typing it in.

To set up PIN Auto-Fill:

  1. Open Virgin TV Go
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Go to Preferences
  4. Switch on Auto-fill PIN and follow the on screen instructions

Now whenever you need to enter your Virgin TV Go PIN, you can use your device's fingerprint or face scan. Remember this will allow anyone who has registered their fingerprints or face with your device to access PIN protected content in Virgin TV Go.

You won't see the option for PIN Auto-fill if your device doesn't support fingerprint or face scan. Virgin TV Go does not have access to your fingerprint or face scan information.

Setting Parental Control

By default the Parental Control age rating restriction for Virgin TV Go is set to PG. This means that any content rated PG or higher will prompt for your Virgin TV Go PIN.

You can change when you're prompted for your PIN via the Virgin TV Go apps and website. These settings apply to all your Virgin TV Go devices.

When you set when you're prompted for your PIN, you can choose from one of the following age rating restrictions, which will apply for any On Demand content with the same age rating or a higher age rating:

  • PG
  • 12
  • 15 – some providers use a ‘G’ rating which is equivalent to this 15 rating
  • 18
  • Unrestricted

To stop Virgin TV Go asking for the PIN, choose Unrestricted.

To set Parental Control:

  1. Sign in to Virgin TV Go using your primary My Virgin Media username and password
  2. Select or Tap on Settings
  3. Select Parental Control. On some devices this may be under Parental Settings
  4. When prompted for the username and password, enter the same one for the My Virgin Media account you used to sign in to Virgin TV Go
  5. Choose the new age rating restriction
