Where to put your Virgin Media Hub
)
Sometimes the secret to better WiFi isn't faster broadband, it's moving your Hub a few feet. Here's how finding it a better spot could improve your connection

Has your Hub been put in the WiFi equivalent of the naughty corner?
Is it out in the open, proudly doing its job? Or has it ended up tucked away behind the TV, hidden in a cupboard or squeezed into a corner?
While our Virgin Media Hubs are designed to handle everything from movie marathons to marathon gaming sessions, even the best WiFi setup can struggle if the Hub isn't in the right spot.
So, before you declare war on your connection, take five minutes to check if our Hub’s in the right place. Sometimes better WiFi doesn't require repairs or a lengthy troubleshooting session. Sometimes it just needs a better seat in the house.
Here’s our guide to positioning our WiFi Hub to get the best connection in your home.
Give the Hub some space
)
Your Hub isn't asking for much. Just a little personal space.
If it's hidden behind the TV, buried under clutter or squeezed into a cupboard, it's basically trying to distribute WiFi while wearing a blindfold.
Give it an open, central spot instead. The more room it has, the easier it is for those WiFi signals to travel around your home. Think less "forgotten electronic in the corner" and more "main character energy".
Keep it away from chaos
)
Homes are busy places. Whether you're sharing with family, housemates or a cat who clearly believes they're the one paying the mortgage, there's always something competing for space.
Unfortunately, your WiFi Hub isn't a fan of sharing.
Devices like TVs, speakers, baby monitors, cordless phones and microwaves can all cause interference with the signal. Put your Hub right next to them, and it's trying to do its job while competing with half the gadgets in the house for attention.
Give it a little breathing room instead. A bit of distance from other electronics can help your Hub deliver a stronger, more reliable signal around your home.
Higher ground = happy Hub
)
Your WiFi Hub isn't a fan of the floor.
If your Hub is sitting down by your skirting boards, it's got a harder job reaching the devices you actually use, whether that's your phone on the sofa, your laptop at the dining table or your smart TV across the room.
The fix is simple: give it a boost. Placing your Hub on a shelf, sideboard or table can help your signal travel more effectively around your home.
If you live in a house with multiple floors, try putting the Hub on the middle one. That gives your WiFi the best chance of reaching everywhere, from your home office to the kitchen where you mysteriously end up every time you're supposed to be working.
Just don't get carried away and stick it on top of a wardrobe. Your Hub wants a good view of the room, not a starring role in Mission: Impossible.
Be strategic with our WiFi Pods
)
Our WiFi Pods are brilliant at extending your WiFi coverage, but they need something to work with.
A Pod can only boost the signal it receives, so starting with a decent connection is key. Think of it as a relay race. The Pod can carry the baton, but somebody still has to hand it over.
For the best results, place Pods between your Hub and the areas where your signal starts to weaken. And while we're here, try not to hide them behind furniture or under a pile of things you keep meaning to put away.
Why WiFi Hub position matters
Moving your Hub might not sound like the most exciting way to spend five minutes, but it could make a bigger difference to your WiFi than you think.
Our Hubs are designed to handle a lot. Streaming boxsets, downloading games, joining video calls, scrolling social media, smart home devices, online shopping, online workouts... sometimes all at the same time. But even the best broadband setup can struggle if the Hub is hidden away in a spot where the signal can't travel properly.
That's why location matters. By placing your Hub somewhere open, central and away from common sources of interference, you're giving your WiFi the best possible chance of reaching every corner of your home.
So before you blame your broadband, take a look at where your Hub is sitting. If it's hidden behind furniture, surrounded by gadgets or tucked away in a forgotten corner of the house, it might be time for a move.
Give it a little space, put it in the right spot and let it do what it does best. Your WiFi, your devices and everyone else in the house will thank you for it.
