The blockbuster to end all blockbusters

The blockbuster to end all blockbusters

The incredible, awe-inspiring Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame is available to buy on the Virgin Media Store

Some of Hollywood’s biggest names team up like never before in this breathtaking finale to the cinematic phenomenon

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame + Digital Bonus, available to buy on the Virgin Media Store. Cert 12. Available to rent on Virgin Movies from Monday 2 September

It’s official. Avengers: Endgame is the highest-grossing movie of all time. Not that we expected anything less from this epic blockbuster of course, but when you look at the numbers, it’s even more staggering. It’s global box office takings total just under $2.8 billion. That’s more than the GDP of Bhutan. It’s enough to buy you 1,647 Bugatti Veyrons, or a round of drinks for five people at a bar in central London.

If you’re not quite brushed up on your recent Marvel history, Endgame is the fourth and final chapter in the Avengers saga, and the culmination of our heroes’ battle with Thanos. Spoiler alert: Thanos, the big purple dude with the wrinkly chin, has just used the infinity stones to snap half the universe out of existence, including heroes like Black Panther and Spider-Man, and it’s down to the OGs – Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and pals – to somehow right that wrong.

As you might expect, this cinematic epic is three solid hours of relentless action, outrageous effects, heart, soul and laughter. Here are five reasons why you need to check it out on the Virgin Media Store…

1. It’s an enormous cultural moment

We’re talking as big as the Game Of Thrones finale, the end of Harry Potter or that episode of Love Island when Josh walked back into the villa with Kaz (okay, maybe not that last one). Films like Avengers: Endgame are simply too big to miss – just think of all the memes you won’t understand – and they’re incredibly popular for a reason.

2. It’s changed the face of Marvel’s future

We’ve now officially reached the end of phase three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase four starts with Black Widow in 2020, and without spoiling anything, you’re going to want to have seen Avengers: Endgame if you’re planning on keeping up with future Marvel films. Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of big changes, and reading about them on Wikipedia doesn’t quite do them justice.

3. It’s full of heart

When you think of superhero movies you think of fighting and explosions. Don’t get us wrong, Avengers: Endgame has that in spades, but at its core it’s a film about bonding, friendship and the lengths people go to in order to protect others, especially the people they care for most. We challenge you to get through it without crying at least once.

4. It doesn’t forget the laughs

When the stakes are this high (we’re talking the fates of half the living things in the universe) those little moments of light relief are all the more important. Thankfully, Avengers: Endgame does not disappoint. The comedy is present and zinging despite the backdrop of unprecedented destruction, and for that the film gets mad props.

5. It’s an epic trip down memory lane

Again, without giving too much away, this mammoth movie gives us the chance to revisit some of our favourite Marvel scenes from films past. The result is a perfect blend of white-knuckle exhilaration and over-the-top caper – precisely what you want from a superhero blockbuster. It’s nostalgic while still feeling fresh and exciting.
