The Exorcist: Believer

Premium Release. Buy or rent now. Cert 15

Widower Victor (Leslie Odom Jr, One Night In Miami) has devoted his life to raising his daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls), but his dedication isn’t enough to prevent her and her friend from disappearing under mysterious circumstances – as well as the distressing chain of events that erupt on their return. Desperate, he recruits Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn, reprising her role from The Exorcist) who, though estranged from her formerly bedevilled daughter, has become an expert in demonic possession. Will a grim exorcism save their souls, or will it simply tear the two girls’ families apart? Tune in to find out and keep your eyes peeled for Exorcist OG Linda Blair.

The Nun II

Available to buy or rent now. Cert 15

Forgive us Father, for Valak has sinned again. The demon nun returns in this sequel to worldwide smash-hit The Nun, and this time Valak (Bonnie Aarons, The Bell Keeper) is wreaking more horrifying havoc than ever before. When a priest is found brutally murdered at a boarding school, Sister Irene (reprised by Taissa Farmiga) is summoned to investigate the evil that is spreading at the scene of the crime. Expect plenty of jump scares, diabolical possessions and spine-chilling special effects.

Insidious: The Red Door

Available to buy or rent now. Cert 15

The Lambert’s final saga in the Insidious world is a frightening family affair all around. A sequel to Insidious: Chapter 2 that’s directed by franchise star Patrick Wilson, the film picks up ten years after Josh (Wilson) was possessed and trapped in The Further. However, the family’s ordeal is far from over and they must work together to defeat the Red-Faced Demon and seal its terrifying spirit realm once and for all. Ty Simpkins, Rose Byrne, Andrew Astor, Joseph Bishara and Lin Shaye also reprise their roles.

Cocaine Bear

Available to buy now. Cert 15

Most of us enjoy scary movies safe in the knowledge that their monsters and ghoulies are imaginary – but what if the threat was all too realistic? There can’t be many things in the world more frightening than encountering a bear. Unless you add large amounts of stimulants into the mix… Cocaine Bear is a part-terrifying, part-hilarious ride through the forests of deepest Georgia where a group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens are all trying to escape the wrath of, well, a bear on cocaine. Keri Russell (The Diplomat), O’Shea Jackson Jr (Long Shot), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Goodfellas’ Ray Liotta are among the endangered humans. Inspired by, yes, a true story!

The Boogeyman

Available to buy or rent now. Cert 15

Inspired by the master storyteller Stephen King and directed by Rob Savage (the same that brought séances and evil to Zoom calls in The Host), The Boogeyman’s horror creds are impeccable. In this deeply unsettling film, the “Boogeyman” refers to a sinister supernatural presence that feeds on suffering – and it’s found some new victims in the Harper family, including a teenage daughter played by Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and her absent father (Chris Messina, Birds Of Prey) who are grieving the recent death of their mother.

M3GAN

Available to buy now. Cert 15

From Chucky to Annabelle, bad dolls have always made good horror. And now there’s a chilling new addition to the genre: M3GAN. The life-like toy android is welcomed into the home of roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams, Get Out) as company for her newly orphaned niece. M3GAN might be fiercely loyal to 8-year-old Cady, but she is also a deliciously unsettling presence, combining her artificial intelligence with a blank, dead-eyed expression. This leads, inevitably, to violence – and some of the creepiest TikTok-inspired dances that we’ve ever seen.

The Pope’s Exorcist

Available to buy now. Cert 15

This is a harrowing film – but that’s just what we’re hoping for in a horror flick, isn’t it? Russell Crowe (Gladiator) stars as Father Gabriele Amorth, a papal-appointed exorcist tasked with rescuing a young boy possessed by a demon. But saving the boy’s soul is not straightforward; Amorth must first uncover a historic cover-up within the church and atone for his own sins, too. Based on, yes, a terrifying true story from the late Amorth who claims to have performed over 160,000 exorcisms throughout his career.

The Exorcist

Available to buy or rent now. Cert 18

Just a few chords of this film’s eerie tinkling soundtrack are enough to transport you to the cinematic terrors that take place in this suburban Washington home. It’s the perfect time to see where one of the most famous horror franchises began, following the story of a single mother (Ellen Burstyn, Law And Order: Organized Crime) and her young daughter (Linda Blair) who is slowly but inexorably taken over by demonic possession. The 1973 film set the bar for horror with its deeply disturbing scenes of head-spinning, speaking in tongues and confrontations with the two priests that try to save her.

Meg 2: The Trench

Available to buy now or rent from Monday 30 October. Cert 12

You can run but you can’t hide from these larger-than-life prehistoric predators. This more-silly-than-scary sequel to The Meg is set five years after its predecessor and sees Jason Statham reprise his role as rescue diver and action hero Jonas Taylor. Only this time, he’s not just taking on one supersized shark – he’s dealing with three Megs, a swarm of colossus lizard-like creatures and a giant octopus as they attack a holiday resort. Eek!

Talk To Me

Available to buy now or rent from Monday 13 November. Cert 15

Teenage dramas, malevolent spirits, a severed, embalmed hand of mysterious origin – what could possibly go wrong?! Well, 17-year-old Mia (Sophie Wilde, Everything Now) is about to find out, in this feature-length directional debut from YouTube comedy horror stars, Danny and Michael Philippou. After Mia attends a house party and communes with the spirit world, she consequently unleashes supernatural forces that put herself and her friends in mortal danger. Creepy chaos ensues, obv.
