Look out, there’s a Geostorm a comin’!

With the disaster movie making a splash on Sky Cinema, decide if these film titles are real or just pie in the sky

Whatever the weather, this spectacular thriller starring Gerard Butler will have you on the edge of your seat

Geostorm, available from Friday 6 July in Sky Cinema on demand. Cert 12. Also available in HD

Being able to control the weather is pretty much every person’s dream – even more so if you live in the UK. But if action-packed disaster epic Geostorm is anything to go by, you should be careful what you wish for.

In 2019, a sophisticated satellite system called Dutch Boy is able to regulate the Earth’s weather, keeping the population safe by eradicating potential natural disasters. Sounds great, right? And it is – until the system starts malfunctioning.

Enter Jack Lawson (300’s Gerard Butler). He’s the chief architect of Dutch Boy and is sent into space to give the faulty machinery a closer look. But as more and more disasters wreak havoc on the planet and the threat of a cataclysmic event known as a geostorm becomes a real possibility, the nature of the satellite’s breakdown is questioned. Could it have been deliberately sabotaged?

Lawson and his brother Max (Hard Sun’s Jim Sturgess), who works for the State Department, must team up with US Secret Service Agent Sarah Wilson (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’s Abbie Cornish) to wrestle back control of the satellite and the weather before it’s too late.

Co-starring Hollywood heavyweights Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven) and Ed Harris (Westworld), this fast-paced blockbuster is the latest in a long cinematic tradition of geological disaster movies, but can you tell if the following film titles are genuine or made up?
