After the thrills of 2009’s Star Trek, the intrepid team return to action in this awesome follow-up
Star Trek: Into Darkness, Thursday 27 September, 9pm, Film4/HD (CH 428/429)
Captain Kirk and company are back for more space-based escapades in the second instalment of JJ Abrams’ sci-fi reboot – and boy have they got their hands full.
When Starfleet officer John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) starts wreaking havoc on Earth and beyond, the crew of the USS Enterprise is tasked with hunting down one of their own. But is Harrison really who he says he is?
Once the explosions get going in this epic blockbuster, there’s barely a pause for breath. Hurtling from incredible action sequence to incredible action sequence, you’ll be clinging to the edge of your sofa throughout as the story unravels at warp speed.
But what really keeps the film ticking along are some seriously charming lead performances. The chemistry between Chris Pine’s Kirk, Zachary Quinto’s Spock and Karl Urban’s Dr McCoy manages to capture the essence of the beloved original series, yet the film also succeeds in boldly going where the franchise has never gone before.
Plus, with Peter Weller (RoboCop) onboard and Leonard Nimoy in his final turn as Spock, you know you’re onto an intergalactic winner.
