The stars of Formula One® are ready to serve up another classic in the desert

Got your breath back after the season opener in Melbourne? Well, it’s time to go again…

FORMULA 1 2018 GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX, Sunday 8 April, 3.45pm, Channel 4/HD (CH 104/141) + 4.05pm, Sky Sports F1®/HD (CH 516/506)

The drama came thick and very fast in Australia, as Sebastian Vettel won the opening race of the the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship season. But now all eyes turn to the Bahrain International Circuit for the next gripping instalment of what’s already shaping up to be an epic season. Here’s what we know going into the grid...

Ferrari are on fire

Ferrari’s Vettel topped the podium here in 2017 following one of the most electrifying races in recent memory. The German managed to hold on for victory after 57 white-knuckle laps, while Lewis Hamilton, who finished second, was left to rue a five-second penalty he incurred for holding up Daniel Ricciardo in the pits. Tut tut.

But the Brits are bubbling up

Revenge will be on Hamilton’s mind, but the reigning champion doesn’t need too much encouragement when it comes to achieving victory in Bahrain. He knows this track like the back of his private yacht, having won two of the last four races here. A happy hunting ground indeed.

And the pack is in hot pursuit

Not that it’ll just be about Vettel and Hamilton when the lights go out on the starting grid – after all, this Formula One season is as wide open as it’s ever been. With the likes of Ricciardo, Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas and Fernando Alonso (who’s won here three times before) all in the running, expect another doozy in the desert.
