It’s The National Television Awards!

As the best telly of 2019 is celebrated live on ITV, find out who’s won our alternative gongs

Roll out the red carpet, because the great and the good of British telly are about to take centre stage

The National Television Awards, Tuesday 28 January, 7.30pm, ITV/HD (CH 103/113). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > ITV Hub

What a year of telly 2019 was. From blockbuster dramas and sensational soaps to OMG reality TV and stunning individual performances from our finest actors and actresses, the last 12 months were very special indeed. Now, it’s time to celebrate them.

With new host David Walliams at the helm, The National Television Awards on ITV is primed and ready to heap deserved praise on the best entertainment produced in the UK last year. Dished out live from The O2 Arena in London, these gongs are voted for by the public, giving them that extra bit of clout.

Categories include Best Drama, Best Talent Show, Best TV Judge, Best Serial Drama, Best Comedy and Best TV Presenter, which has been won by Ant and Dec a staggering 18 consecutive times. Can the duo make it 19 in a row this time around or could we see a new occupant on the throne?

One thing we do know is that 2019 has given us a host of brilliant TV moments unlikely to be recognised at The National Television Awards. Still, that hasn’t stopped us coming up with our own list. Here are the real small-screen heroes of the past 12 months…
