Don’t miss series 2 of This Way Up

Don’t miss series 2 of This Way Up

It’s been an agonising two-year wait! After you (inevitably) binge the new series, here’s where else you can watch the incredible ensemble cast

By Laura Rutkowski, Staff Writer

Aisling Bea and Sharon Horgan are up to their old antics again as hilarious Irish siblings Aine and Shona. In the first series, English-as-a-foreign-language teacher Aine had just come out of rehab after recovering from a “teeny little nervous breakdown”.

As for Aine’s love life, things started heating up between her and Richard, the father of her 12-year-old French pupil Étienne. Following an initially rejected and then eventually accepted proposal in the finale, Shona and boyfriend Vish got engaged. To celebrate, Shona… er… kissed her business partner Charlotte.

Clearly, there are some loose ends to tie up, then! In series 2, Étienne goes on a trip to Paris, leaving Aine and Richard to enjoy date night. Shona and Charlotte need to clear the air after that kiss since they work together and all. Meanwhile, Vish is in New York on business. We have also been promised another duet between the sisters – one to rival their rendition of The Cranberries’ “Zombie” we hope.

Bea won the Breakthrough Talent Award as writer for This Way Up at the British Academy Television Craft Awards 2020, and it’s precisely her blend of sharp dialogue, humour and insightful observations that makes the show a success.

Another huge reason is, of course, the outstanding cast. Find out where else you might recognise them from, and how to watch them in more shows and films below.
