What is a short-term broadband contract?
Short-term broadband is exactly what it sounds like on the tin; a home broadband deal with a much smaller commitment, built for people want to get connected without the commitment. Instead of signing up for a 24-month contract, you can pick a rolling-contract that lets you keep things flexible.
With a rolling-contract, the broadband power you need right now, without stressing about what happens if you move home, switch providers or fancy an upgrade a few months down the line.
When it comes to us at Virgin Media, we've got a few broadband options with different contract lengths:
Student broadband (12 months): our way for students to get connected.
No-contract broadband (monthly rolling): The definition of freedom, with the ability to cancel whenever you like. But
Everything else (24 months): This is the broadband contract you'll sign up for with most of our packages and most other providers. Our broadband deals are packed with perks – including our fastest speeds, great entertainment, and extra bonuses like Netflix Standard at no extra cost when you pair broadband with TV.
Can I get broadband on 6-month or 12-month contracts?
We don’t offer specific 6-or 12-month broadband packages, but we do offer broadband on a rolling contract, giving you full flexibility about how long you want to be with us.
If you’re a student, you might also be eligible for our student broadband deals, which are designed specifically for shorter stays and term-time browsing. It’s a simple way to get fast, reliable broadband during term-time without paying for broadband while you’re not using it.

Why get broadband on a rolling contract?
Maybe you’re in a short-term rental or house-sitting for a few months. If your living situation changes more often than your Netflix recommendations, the last thing you need is a broadband contract you can’t shake off. A shorter deal keeps things simple, letting you get online, get settled, and walk away when it’s time for your next move - no paperwork panic or nasty surprises.
If you’ve already got one eye on Rightmove or your moving boxes are basically packed, a long-term broadband contract isn’t your friend. Short-term deals save you from being tangled up in exit fees or contract drama when moving day finally rolls around. You’re free to switch, upgrade or choose a better deal at your new address without any fuss.
Choosing a broadband provider is a bit like dating, you want to make sure the match is right before you fully commit. With a shorter contract, you can try out the speeds, reliability, WiFi coverage and customer service without locking yourself in for years. If it’s love at first download, great. If not, you’re free to move on.
Some people simply don’t do long-term commitments, and that’s totally valid. Whether you crave freedom, want to keep your options open or just like the idea of switching whenever it suits you, short-term broadband puts you in the driver’s seat. You’re paying for speed and freedom, not a contract that outlasts your sofa.
What broadband can I get on a short-term contract?
You can choose from a couple of broadband speeds with a rolling contract, but it all depends on what’s available where you live.
Broadband availability can vary from street to street, so the best way to see exactly what you can get is to head over to our No Contract Broadband Deals page and pop in your postcode. It’ll show you the speeds, packages and options ready to go at your address, so you know what’s possible before you sign up.
Things to consider
There are some other things you will need to think about when choosing your rolling contract too, including:
Upfront Fees: Short-term broadband sometimes comes with higher setup or activation charges, so make sure you know the full cost before you commit. Our rolling contract activation fees come at £35 per broadband package, with a £45 rolling contract fee.
Additional Costs: Some contracts include a Hub, some charge extra, and some expect you to bring your own. Our rolling contracts provide the Hub included, so you don’t have to stress about finding one when the time comes.
What is the best broadband on a short-term contract?
If you want fast, reliable broadband without committing to a longer contract, our rolling-contract broadband packages are a seriously smart shout. They’re flexible, fuss-free and ideal for renters, movers, students or anyone who prefers broadband that fits around their life, not the other way around.
A rolling contract hits the perfect balance: more freedom than a long-term deal, better value than a rolling monthly contract, and all the speed you need right now. So, if you’re after commitment-free connectivity, check out our range of short-term broadband options and find the one that works for you.
