Find your Father Figures

Find your Father Figures

This hilarious new comedy, new on Sky Cinema, sees Owen Wilson and Ed Helms searching for their real dad

Family. You think you know them, then you find that your mum has been hiding a big secret from you…

Father Figures, available from Friday 23 November in Sky Cinema on demand. Cert 15

That’s exactly the situation for brothers Owen Wilson and Ed Helms in Father Figures, the hilarious new film that arrives on Sky Cinema this week. So what’s the big secret? Allow us to explain.

Kyle (Wilson) and Peter (Helms) are non-identical twins who have grown up with only a photo of their supposedly deceased father. Only when Kyle spots the guy in the picture on TV does their mother Helen (Glenn Close) finally confess he wasn’t their real dad – and that she’s not sure which of her old boyfriends actually is. Hey, it was the 70s, man…

Kyle and Peter, two very different fellas, head out on a road trip across the US to meet Helen’s former paramours in the hope of identifying the right man. Their adventure includes run-ins with a former American football pro (Terry Bradshaw, playing himself) and a man with serious anger management issues (JK Simmons).

The film really does boast a great cast – we haven’t even mentioned Christopher Walken, Harry Shearer, Retta or Ving Rhames – but it’s the dynamic between Wilson and Helms that’ll keep you hooked, as the uptight Peter comes to loosen up and the laid-back Kyle realises that life is not as easy as he thought.

Families, eh? Gotta love ’em. And in the spirit of the movie, we’ve pulled together a fictional family tree based on Owen Wilson’s film history, showing just a few of the memorable family ties forged in his career. Check it out below…
