Fancy a brand new channel packed with more cinematic classics than you shake a tripod at?
Sony Movies Classic (CH 424), available from Tuesday 7 January
Picture the scene… The WiFi is down. Streaming, as you know it, is over. Suddenly, shining on the horizon, comes a dusty, old projector sat astride an old but still spritely steed. It steadily whirrs into action and begins playing a catalogue of classics from cinema’s Golden Age; saving humanity from certain boredom.
Prophetic visions aside, the fact of the matter is that we can always depend on a classic to bring a smile to our face. And brand new channel Sony Movies Classic is fit to bursting with everything from black-and-white belters to full-colour capers, telling acclaimed stories from times gone by, and featuring some of cinema’s greatest ever stars.
From Groucho Marx in Duck Soup and Katherine Hepburn in The African Queen, to Meryl Streep in The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Clint Eastwood in Play Misty For Me, if it’s a film with a bunch of acclaimed actors in it that’s been wowing audiences for generations, you can bet your bottom dollar that it’ll on Sony Movies Classic.
Legends behind the camera are also featured, with five-time Oscar winner John Ford’s Gideon Of Scotland Yard and Fred Zinnemann’s A Man For All Seasons also due to air.
