Amir Khan takes on tough Canadian Phil Lo Greco in his first rumble since he came out of the jungle...
Saturday 21 April, 7pm, Sky Sports Action/HD (CH517/507)
It’s been a turbulent couple of years for Amir Khan. Since Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez knocked him out in May 2016, he’s changed promoters, missed out on a super-fight with Manny Pacquiao, had a Twitter spat with Anthony Joshua and made his reality TV debut in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
But now he’s back and ready to fight again – and his next opponent wouldn’t mention any of that stuff, right? Wrong. “After the Canelo loss, you went on a losing streak – family, wife, and then you go out and you tweet to the heavyweight champion of the world… What is wrong with you, mate?” was how Phil Lo Greco taunted him at the pair’s pre-fight press conference.
It was fighting talk from the highly rated Canadian welterweight, and it got the reaction you would expect. Khan hurled a glass of water, the pair scuffled and the British fighter left the room stating that he was going to use his rival’s behaviour as motivation, predicting that Lo Greco was “going to get such a beating”.
But is the former light welterweight world champion still capable of backing up these words with his fists? It depends who you ask. If you ask Lo Greco, the answer is no. “Amir Khan will be knocked out,” states the 33-year-old, who has won 28 of his 31 professional fights.
Khan, naturally, takes a somewhat different view. “I'm going to put on a great performance and prove to the boxing world that the King is well and truly back,” the Bolton fighter says.
