“I’m trying to put myself out of work!”

Christopher Eccleston has a few things on his mind! We grab him for a chat about gender, Liam Neeson and new series Come Home

Nobody puts Christopher Eccleston in a corner. He’s a man on a mission, and he’s just getting started...

Come Home, Tuesdays from 27 March, 9pm, BBC One/HD (CH 101/108). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > BBC iPlayer

“Outspoken” isn’t a word we’d have normally used to describe Christopher Eccleston. And yet the Salford-born actor – best known for playing The Ninth Doctor and his roles in The A Word, The Leftovers and Thor: The Dark World – has surprised us all recently with a few choice words on his exit from the TARDIS. So when we sat down with him to discuss his latest project – BBC One’s Come Home – we had a feeling there might be more where that came from!

Eccleston stars as Greg, whose wife Marie (Broken’s Paula Malcomson) makes the painful decision to leave him and their three children. Over the course of three episodes, we find out what compelled her to make this decision, from across the family’s differing perspectives and using mutiple time-frames and flashbacks.

As someone who knows a thing or two about jumping through time, Eccleston is all for it, though not for the reason you might expect. “It’ll be interesting to see the story from everyone’s point of view rather than it being the typical male-led drama,” he tells us.

And that’s not all he has to say. We sit down with him to get the inside scoop on the drama that everyone’s going to be talking about…
