Get ready for COBRA: Cyberwar

As the nail-biting thriller returns on Sky Max, let us brief you in on what’s happened so far and what’s to come (without spoilers)

By Virgin TV Edit

Back for a brand new series on Sky Max, COBRA: Cyberwar is about to prove once more that there’s never a dull moment in politics.

Starring Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting), Victoria Hamilton (The Crown) and David Haig (Killing Eve), this super-tense drama from Spooks writer Ben Richards is about to take you right to the heart of power again, as the United Kingdom faces another catastrophe following the events in series 1.

Want to know more? Then read on to get bang up to speed on what happened the first time around and what you can expect from series 2…

What happened in the first series?

Robert Carlyle in COBRA: Cyberwar

Oh, it all kicked off. When a solar storm left the UK without power and in absolute chaos, Prime Minister Robert Sutherland (Robert Carlyle) attempted to get a grip on the hair-raising situation by pulling together a crack team of Britain’s leading experts, crisis contingency planners and senior politicians. But things didn’t go all that smoothly…

Really? How come?

This is British politics we’re talking about, so there was plenty of shady maneouvering, backstabbing and mind games going on within the corridors of power while the Prime Minister was trying to get the country back on track. Throw in the unhinged personal lives of many of the characters and you had quite the recipe for disaster. That’s all we’re going to say for now.

What? Why?

Because if you haven’t watched the first series, or just want to refresh your memory ahead of the show’s big return, all episodes are available right now in On Demand.

Gotcha. So what’s the vibe in series 2?

This time around the PM must focus his attention on combatting cyber attacks that have the potential to derail democracy as we know it in the United Kingdom.

Ooh, er. Sounds serious…

You’d better believe it. With his loyal Chief of Staff Anna Marshall (Victoria Hamilton) in tow, Sutherland is forced into dealing with a rather prickly situation in Kent. Meanwhile, former Home Secretary Archie Glover-Morgan (David Haig) still has his sights set on the top job. And there’s a deadly attack to contend with as well…

Go on…

We obviously don’t want to give too much away, but a suspected Russian operation in the UK puts Sutherland on the offensive – sees him butt heads with the head of MI5, Eleanor James (Lisa Palfrey, Sex Education). Like we said, there’s never a dull moment in politics.
