“It’s crazy in the world of Deep State!”

Star Walton Goggins briefs us in on the return of the acclaimed spy thriller on FOX

Expect thrills, spills and cross-border bedlam in season 2 of the hit spy thriller

Deep State, Thursday 9 May, 9pm, FOX/HD (CH 157/199). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > FOX

Following the tumultuous end to season 1, Deep State is back to remind us that there’s so much we don’t know when it comes to the murky world of geopolitics. And judging by the chaos sowed in this most gripping of shows, maybe that’s a good thing.

With the first season taking place in Tehran, the action now switches to Africa. The deep state is set to earn a whole lot of moolah thanks to a US government deal with mineral-rich Mali, but things go disastrously wrong when a group of American soldiers and a translator (The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind’s Lily Banda) are ambushed.

Enter Nathan Miller (Walton Goggins, Ant-Man And The Wasp). Miller is a former CIA operative who’s deployed to make sure the contract is seen through – by any means necessary. The problem is, cutting questionable deals while trying to remain under the radar is easier said than done, as he soon discovers.

Deep State season 2 stars Lily Banda, Karima McAdams and Joe Dempsie

Among the characters returning for season 2 are Harry Clarke (Game Of Thrones’ Joe Dempsie), Leyla Toumi (Vikings’ Karima McAdams), and Amanda Jones (Damages’ Anastasia Griffith). But while some of the faces might be familiar there’s a marked change of pace this time around. The action is ramped up from literally the first scene of the first episode, and once it gets hold of you it doesn’t let go. Shootouts, chases, hand-to-hand combat… it’s got the lot.

“There’s always an ambition to do what you haven’t done before,” says writer/director Matthew Parkhill. “I was just fascinated to expand the world visually and thematically. There are lots of moments that reward the returning viewer.”

Deep State returns to FOX on Thursday, but don’t worry if you miss it, because you can catch it all over again in Catch Up > Channels > Fox. We spoke to star Walton Goggins to learn more about this unmissable new season…
