Welcome to Vanity Fair

Welcome to Vanity Fair

Star Olivia Cooke fills us in on ITV’s new adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s iconic novel

Class warfare, unrequited love, exceptional wigs – this new Sunday night period drama has it all…

Sunday 2 September, 9pm, ITV/HD (CH 103/113). Also available for 7 days in Catch Up > Channels > ITV Hub

Based on the 1848 novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair is everything a period drama should be. The costumes are lavish, the narrative is full of twists and turns, the language is balletic and it’s wickedly funny.

Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) leads the cast as Becky Sharp. Sharp by name, and sharp by nature, Becky is cunning, resourceful and eager to climb the ranks of English society after a difficult start in life. Vanity Fair follows her journey as she hustles her way up the Victorian social ladder.

She’s joined by a stellar cast, including Michael Palin as William Makepeace Thackeray and Tom Bateman (Da Vinci’s Demons) as Sharp’s love interest, plus Johnny Flynn (Lovesick), Martin Clunes (Doc Martin), Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster) and Claire Skinner (Outnumbered).

The first episode starts this Sunday, with the second airing the following night. But before you immerse yourself in this sumptuous world, find out more from our chat with star Olivia Cooke...
