Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier takes a hilarious look at everyday anxieties
No, it’s not a typo. Jon Richardson is a comedian, panel show veteran and massive, massive worryguts. And he’s here to exchange tears (of laughter) for fears
Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier, Wednesdays from 16 May, 10pm, Dave/HD (CH 127/194). All episodes will be available after broadcast of episode 1 in On Demand > Box Sets
If you’re a fan of shows about things that get you in a tizzy, like Room 101 and Dave Gorman’s Modern Life Is Goodish, then Richardson’s new distress-based series will be right up your Neighbourhood Watch-guarded street.
Over the course of eight episodes the former 8 Out Of 10 Cats team captain, who has made documentaries about his obsessive compulsive disorder, ponders life’s biggest worries. Does his phone know more about him than he does? Will he ever make a jacket potato as good as that one he made back in May 2009? When is the nuclear apocalypse happening?
To help him work out which of his worries he should worry about most, he’s joined each week by a mixture of comedians and experts. These include Jack Dee, Romesh Ranganathan, Sara Pascoe, Rob Beckett, Jonathan Ross, Victoria Coren Mitchell and Richardson’s own long-suffering wife, Lucy Beaumont.
Richardson and his guests will sift through his worries, rate their severity and categorise them according to his incredibly high-tech digital log of all of life’s anxieties, known as his “Worry Index”.
In episode 1, Richardson is joined by Josh Widdicombe and Suzi Ruffell to explore worries around the house. Why do people say weird things in their sleep like “mushy peas”? Is everyone loading their dishwasher wrong? It’s the show with all the questions, but no answers.
