Make time for Midnight, Texas

We reveal everything you need to know as the supernatural series returns for season 2

If you think your neighbours are a bit odd, then making a move to Texas is not a good idea. There’s a place there where being normal is actually very strange…

Midnight, Texas, Thursday 1 November, 9pm, SYFY/HD (CH 135/165). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > SYFY

Based on the best-selling series of novels from the literary brain behind True Blood, Charlaine Harris, Midnight, Texas follows the lives of the inhabitants of the titular town. But this isn’t your typical small-town drama, as this community is made up of vampires, psychics, fallen angels and witches… and that’s just the good guys!

The frantically paced and frequently frightening first season introduced us to Manfred Bernardo (Francois Arnaud), a psychic trying to outrun his problems. But after finding refuge in Midnight, he realises he’s just run into a hell of a lot more. Literally.

Manfred is soon drawn into the lives of the denizens of Midnight, striking up a romance with waitress Creek Lovell (Sarah Ramos), much to the dismay of her overprotective father Shawn (Bob Jesser). Then there’s the sweet white witch Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley), assassin Olivia (Arielle Kebbel), her husband Lemuel (Peter Mensah), who’s also a vampire, pawn shop owner Bobo (Dylan Bruce), and angel Joe Strong (Jason Lewis).

Held together by the director of Mr Robot, Niels Arden Oplev, the show deftly mixes action, romance and plenty of supernatural scares. And with the last season ending with a bang, there’s an awful lot for the characters to deal with in season 2… including the newly arrived owners of the Crystal Desert hotel. Fresh from fending off dangerous outsiders last time round, could the community now be infiltrated from the inside?

There’s also the lingering effects of Manfred’s possession and two relationships at either end of the romantic spectrum: the newlywed vampire and assassin, and the angel and demon match-up, who’ve already gone through hell and back to be together. Will it be happily ever after for the inhabitants of America’s strangest town? Tune in to find out…
