Star performers, emotional acceptance speeches, and OMG moments… it can only be the BRITS
The BRIT Awards 2020, Tuesday 18 February, 7.30pm, ITV/HD (CH 103/113). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > ITV Hub
Happy birthday to The BRIT Awards! The biggest night in the British music calendar is turning 40 – and this year’s star-studded event is ready to raise the roof of London’s O2 Arena. Whether you watch it with a big slice of cake is up to you.
Presented once again by Jack Whitehall, the 2020 ceremony has undergone a bit of a makeover. Gone are the International Group Award, Best British Video Award, Outstanding Contribution to Music Award and Global Success Award, meaning that nine gongs will be contested instead of the previous 13.
And in the spirit of shaking things up, three awards have also been renamed: Best New Artist (previously British Breakthrough Act), Rising Star Award (previously Critics’ Choice Award), and Song Of The Year (previously British Single of the Year).
But while some tweaks have been made to the format, one thing most definitely remains the same: big performances from some of the biggest music stars in the world. We’re talking recent Grammys conqueror Billie Eilish, man of the moment Stormzy, Scottish sensation Lewis Capaldi, Harry “I’m a serious musician now” Styles and many more.
And you can be sure this year’s event will produce plenty of headline-grabbing moments, from wild costumes and eye-catching on-stage antics to the odd swear word slipping out when someone gets a little bit overexcited. After all, this is The BRIT Awards we’re talking about.
