Love Island got you heartbroken?

Love Island got you heartbroken?

Here’s what to watch now that the villa has closed for another year

Wipe away those tears and couple up with one of these other great shows

Ex On The Beach, Celebrity Big Brother + more

Goodbyes are never easy. And the same goes for bidding farewell to beloved TV shows. Love Island has given us so much, and asks for so little in return – apart from our total, undivided attention for eight weeks. Test your knowledge of this year’s series here.

If you’re feeling a bit at a loss with what to do with yourself, then we’ve got a few suggestions of how to feel whole again. Set yourself up with one, or all, of these...

For more singletons chasing love in the sun

Ex On The Beach

Watch Ex On The Beach, Wednesdays from 15 August, 10pm, MTV/HD (CH 134/183)

If only there was another show in which incredibly well sculpted models/personal trainers were sent to an exotic location to get off with each other. Oh wait, there is. And, like the Jack and Ellie situation, this lot have all previously had relations with one another. So expect an abundance of drama.

Celebrity Big Brother

Watch Celebrity Big Brother, coming soon to Channel 5

So now that you’ve got your evenings back, you could get a hobby. You could see your friends more often. Or you could get swept up in the new series of Celebrity Big Brother. Rumoured contestants include Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha, adult film star Stormy Daniels, actress Georgia May Foote and the Chuckle Brothers. We know what we’re going to be doing.

EastEnders

Watch EastEnders, Mondays + Fridays at 8pm, Tuesdays + Thursdays at 7.30pm, BBC One/HD (CH 101/108). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > BBC iPlayer

Dani Dyer has been the voice of reason on this year’s Love Island. She’s a woman of the people – much like her father, HRH Danny Dyer. We can’t promise that Dyer Senior (aka the Queen Vic’s resident landlord Mick Carter) will be whispering sweet nothings into the ear of a stationery salesman, but he’ll do.

The X Factor

The X Factor returns to ITV later this summer

Let’s call a spade a spade. You don’t got on Love Island if there isn’t a fairly sizeable part of you that wants a book deal or a hosting slot on This Morning or to release a single. So, if you want to see more people baring their souls to the great British public with the hope of winning our hearts and minds – and a teeth whitening endorsement – The X Factor will sort you right out. This series sees Simon Cowell joined on the judging panel by singer Robbie Williams, his wife Ayda Field, who is a regular on Loose Women, and former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.

For more animal impulses

Jurassic Fight Club

Watch Jurassic Fight Club, Mondays from 13 August, 9pm, H2®/HD (CH 273/274). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > H2®

There is something of the nature documentary about Love Island. The islanders preen themselves, peacock around the villa, gather by the watering hole (i.e. the pool), form alliances with the strongest members of the pack and defeat looming threats for survival. And if you want to watch more fascinating creatures ruthlessly defeat the opposition, see how dinosaurs did it in Jurassic Fight Club. They may have been around millions of years ago, but things haven’t changed that much.

For more heavy glamour

RuPaul's Drag Race

Watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, Wednesdays, 11pm, Comedy Central/HD (CH 132/181). Also available for 7 days in Catch Up > Channels > Comedy Central

It’s not only the Love Island ladies who know how to strut their stuff. This year’s fellas can certainly rock a kaftan/bikini combo, as was revealed in Love Island: The Weekly Hotlist. RuPaul would be so proud. Speaking of which, if you want even more flamboyant fashion, you’re in luck. Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is on Comedy Central, and special guests this series include Lady Gaga and Kesha.
