What is a Powerline WiFi booster?

Powerline networks use your home’s internal electrical wiring to connect your devices. Hook up a Powerline adapter to your Hub and you can get on the web from any room with a working socket. Perfect for places where your existing home network won’t reach.

The fastest Powerline products are as quick as other network technologies. They’re secure too, and take little time and effort to set up.

How does Powerline work?

Powerline will only work when adapters are plugged directly into the same electrical mains circuit, so it may not be possible to connect your home and an outbuilding connected with extension wiring, for example. Powerline may not work well on circuits with very old wiring.

Powerline will not be faster than the maximum speed supported by your network equipment or devices.

Which Powerline kit should you get?

At Virgin Media we now offer two types of Powerline adapters – we call them Boosters and they’re designed to work with our latest Hub 3.

The Boosters we offer are:

  • Wired Booster – these connect straight to your devices using network cables
  • WiFi Booster – these connect your devices using wireless technology (our WiFi Boosters also include Ethernet connections)

Virgin Media’s Boosters will work with all of our Virgin Fibre services.
