Sky Cinema is celebrating World Poetry Day on Wednesday 21 March by showing one of Williams’ most memorable roles, Dead Poets Society, at 8pm on Sky Cinema & Romance/HD (CH 440/410) and in Sky Cinema on demand. In this 1989 classic (which won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and a BAFTA for Best Film) he plays John Keating, an unconventional English teacher who arrives at a stuffy prep school and gives his students a zest for life by igniting in them a love of poetry.
Dead Poets Society is an undoubted masterpiece, with early roles for a host of now very familar faces (Ethan Hawke, Robert Sean Leonard and Josh Charles all stand up please), but do you think it’s Williams’ best performance in a career that was packed full of outstanding moments? We’ve rounded up a selection of his finest work – all you have to do is vote for your favourite…
