MotoGP™ GoPro British Grand Prix, Sunday 26 August, 12.30pm, BT Sport 2/HD (CH 532/528)
It’s official: the 2018 MotoGP™ season has reached crunch time. With just eight races left, the latest gripping chapter in what’s been a breathtaking campaign sees the action arrive at Silverstone for the GoPro British Grand Prix.
The big question is whether the imperious Marc Márquez will take a step closer towards securing a third consecutive world title. The championship leader has been in stunning form this year, showing the kind of dominance and consistency that suggests he’s at the untouchable apex of his sport.
But despite his supremacy, the Spaniard won’t need reminding about his past struggles for success on these shores – the 25-year-old marvel has finished first in just one MotoGP race in the UK, and that was all the way back in 2014.
So what does Márquez’s surprisingly lacklustre history in Britain mean? Well, you can bet that his rivals will be licking their lips in anticipation on the starting grid.
The legendary Valentino Rossi can cut the gap at the top of the standings if he powers to a seventh British Grand Prix victory, while Maverick Viñales would give his title tilt a huge shot in the arm by topping the podium. And it’s also worth keeping an eye out for French phenomenon Johann Zarco, three-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso – who won here 12 months ago – during what’s sure to be an intense battle on the track.
From a British perspective, it’s all about Cal Crutchlow. The Coventry-born star came agonisingly close to securing a podium finish at Silverstone in 2017, so he’s definitely got some unfinished business to attend to when the action gets under way.
It’s going to be fast. It’s going to be furious. It’s going to be unmissable. Follow all of the drama from the British Grand Prix live and exclusive on BT Sport.
