The Premier League delivered yet another belting weekend of top-class drama across Saturday and Sunday, with major moments coming thick and fast. But what were the talking points that really got tongues wagging?

Read on for our round-up of the action…

1. Result of the weekend

Brighton 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Make no mistake, this was a must-win game for Spurs after losing their previous three matches. Playing in monsoon conditions away to a hardy Brighton side was never going to be easy, but Tottenham managed to grind out three important points thanks to a Harry Kane penalty and a second-half strike from substitute Erik Lamela to get their campaign back on track.

2. Goal of the weekend

Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal) v Everton

Lacazette’s finish against Everton was a thing of raw beauty. Cushioning the ball perfectly with his first touch inside the box, the Frenchman then lashed a fine curling effort into the top corner for his second goal in three Premier League games. Magnifique!

3. Performance of the weekend

James Maddison (Leicester City) v Huddersfield Town

Another week, another sparkling display from Leicester’s chief creative force. Maddison gave Huddersfield a major headache for most of the afternoon on Saturday and capped a superb performance by smashing a free kick home as the Foxes strolled to a 3-1 victory. Talk of a senior England call-up continues…

4. Manager of the weekend

Nuno Espírito Santo (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Not only did Nuno guide his team to an impressive 1-1 draw away to Manchester United, he made sure they gave José Mourinho’s side a real run for their money with a swashbuckling performance. If it wasn’t for the sprawling limbs of United keeper David de Gea, Wolves might have left Old Trafford with a victory.

5. Cameo of the weekend

Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) v Cardiff City

The Algerian had an eventful 30 minutes at the Cardiff City Stadium, coming off the bench to score twice in City’s thumping 5-0 win. They were Mahrez’s first goals for the club, leading manager Pep Guardiola to describe him as an “incredibly talented player”. Tell us something we don’t know, Pep.
