PDC World Darts Championship, from Thursday 13 December, 7pm, Sky Sports Main Event/HD (CH 511/501) and Sky Sports Arena/HD (CH 518/508)

It’s that time of year again – where the world’s best darts players head to London’s Alexandra Palace to fight for the world title in front of bizarrely costumed fans who wait with bated breath until a player manages to score ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTYYYY. Ahem.

Yes, the PDC World Darts Championship is about to begin, triggering two and a half weeks of non-stop, board-thumping action. And this year’s tournament is set to be bigger and better than ever!

In the most significant overhaul to the schedule in 13 years, the number of players vying for the coveted Sid Waddell trophy has increased from an already whopping 72 to 96!

Plus, with countless former champions and a number of rising contenders packing out the order, there’s every chance a living legend could cement their glittering legacy, or an unknown climb the ranks and make a statement on the biggest of stages.

But who, we hear you cry, are the contenders for this year’s crown? Never fear, dear reader, simply click/hover on the players below to learn more about the ones to watch this tournament…
