Pick a Box Set, any Box Set!

There’s no time like the present to start browsing and bingeing a new Box Set!

By Laura Rutkowski, Staff Writer

Are you looking for a new series to get stuck into? Whether you want to catch up on a show that’s been on your list since you can remember or whether you’d like to discover something new, you’ll be spoilt for choice with our picks.

There’s lots of terrific telly vying for your attention at the moment, but we would never make you choose! That’s why we’re recommending the whole lot! Now, where to begin…

Station 19

Find seasons 1 & 2 in On Demand > Box Sets

Station 19 is produced by Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes’ company Shondaland and written by Grey’s executive producer/co-showrunner Stacy McKee. Just like the medical drama, Station 19 takes place in Seattle, Washington, with the fire station located a stone’s throw away from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Brassic

Find series 1 & 2 in On Demand > Box Sets

Co-created by star Joe Gilgun (This Is England) and BAFTA-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst (The Stranger), Brassic is about a group of mates in a fictional Lancashire town whose idea of fun usually means getting up to no good. The Sky One show, also starring Michelle Keegan (Our Girl), Ryan Sampson (Plebs) and Damien Molony (Crashing), was a huge hit for the channel. Once you watch it, you’ll see why.

PEN15

Find it in On Demand > Box Sets from Friday 3 July

Dubbed a “cringe comedy”, PEN15’s hilarity factor is largely down to Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle’s performances. The comics, who are in their 30s, play their younger 13-year-old selves as they navigate middle school in the year 2000. Meanwhile, their fellow students are all played by actual teenagers. We shudder to think what reliving those awkward years was like, but props to them for doing it and making a brilliant series out of it!

Endeavour

Find series 1-7 in On Demand > Box Sets from Thursday 2 July

Before getting promoted to detective sergeant and growing that splendid moustache (although it’s absent in series 7), Endeavour Morse was a clean-shaven constable and still slightly wet behind the ears. See him cracking cases in the Inspector Morse prequel, with Shaun Evans in the role of Morse. Series 8 is in the works, so get stuck in now.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger

Find seasons 1 & 2 in On Demand > Box Sets

Tyrone Johnson is the Cloak to Tandy Bowen’s Dagger. After an oil rig accident causes them to develop superpowers, the two (played by Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt) are forever interlinked, whether they like it or not. In the comics, they strike up a romantic relationship, but season 1 moves at a slower pace, first establishing their intense friendship. Find out more about the show here.

Catastrophe

Find series 1-4 in On Demand > Box Sets

When American Rob meets Sharon, a teacher from Ireland, they get along like a house on fire, but reality serves them a smack in the face when Sharon discovers she’s pregnant. The two muddle along making a go at being a couple to disastrous, but hilarious, effect. Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan, who wrote the series, star in the lead roles. Mark Bonnar and Ashley Jensen as married couple Chris and Fran are also particularly well cast.

The Windsors

Find series 1 & 2 in On Demand > Box Sets

Although this is a fictional hint-hint-wink-wink story about the British Royal family, the plot points were inspired by real events. There are feuds, fall-outs and plenty of drama to go around as all the key players are satirised. If you’re wondering where you recognise William from, actor Hugh Skinner played Harry in Fleabag. You know, the one who always cleans the entire flat after one of his many break ups with Fleabag.

Celebrity Ex On The Beach

Find series 1 in On Demand > Box Sets

Nothing ruins a trip to Marbella quite like having your ex show up. This celebrity version of the show, starring Geordie Shore’s Vicky Pattison and former footballer Ashley Cain, as well as three others guys and girls, intentionally stirs up drama on what would otherwise be a perfectly lovely holiday.

Harrow

Find seasons 1 & 2 in On Demand > Box Sets

Couldn’t get enough of Ioan Gruffudd as Liar’s chief villain Andrew Earlham? Here he plays forensic pathologist Dr Daniel Harrow, who will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of every case – authority be damned! There are plenty of boats too, if you’re into that kinda thing.

Bobby & Harriet Get Married

Find series 1 in On Demand > Box Sets

Getting engaged is only the beginning. The next hurdle is staying together long enough to make it down the aisle. Real-life couple and stand-up comedians Bobby Mair and Harriet Kemsley put their relationship under the microscope, all in the name of comedy, for this revealing series. Look out for some of their famous friends, including Katherine Ryan and Romesh Ranganathan.
