As Rob And Romesh Vs returns to Sky Max with some extreme new challenges, take our quiz to find out how much you know about them
By Chris Miller, Feature Writer
We’ve watched Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan do a lot of out-there things on their Sky Max show Rob And Romesh Vs, from opening a restaurant to trying out for a K-Pop group to getting in the ring with boxing champ Anthony Joshua. And when they dressed in full, glorious drag back in series 3, we may have described it as “fire”. But we never thought they would be on actual fire.
That’s right – the pair of BFFs have seriously upped the ante for their new series, starting on Wednesday 28 August at 9pm on Sky Max HD (CH 111). First up it’s a trip to Hollywood to meet Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, the stars of this summer’s big action-comedy-romance movie The Fall Guy. The film is a love letter to the death-defying exploits of stunt performers, but of course, our heroes aren’t just here to sit around and admire the work of these silver-screen daredevils. They’re getting involved.
With input from the film’s director David Leitch, himself a former stunt performer and coordinator, Rob and Rom prepare themselves for some of the most dangerous challenges they’ve ever attempted – including being set ablaze by the Hollywood experts. Very much don’t try this at home. And then, armed with this knowhow, they head back to the UK to put it into practice on the almost equally glamorous set of Hollyoaks.
Later in the series, they’ll be taking on even more challenges. They’ll meet some of the world’s top mixed martial artists in Las Vegas as they find out if they could survive in the UFC, as well as heading to the Download festival to discover more about the UK’s heavy metal scene (and learn how to do a death growl). There will be less physical jeopardy involved – you’d hope – when they go behind the scenes at the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
We love watching these two best mates bring their distinct approaches – Rob eager and gung-ho, Rom more circumspect and cynical – to these tests of their mettle, and long may it continue, frankly. We’ve been looking back over some of our favourite episodes of the show (all previous episodes are available in On Demand > Sky Max), so see if you can remember what they’ve been up to over the six previous series with our quiz…
